Change one thing in S5

This is the polite version of what I was going to say. S5 sticks in my brain as having the overall most annoying characters. First we must all get used to a screechy whiny Dawn and then our big bad is an over the top goddess with some pretty bad lines and a male counterpart who could have been better cast IMO. This plus some horrific CGI demons (ok, this happens in every season but for some reason again sticks out more to me in S5. Stupid snake) makes for a non-palatable season for me.

Ok, I'm obviously biased as this is my least favourite season so I'm going to go rewatch it and see if I can lessen the hate a little. Maybe after reading some pro-5 threads... 😎
 
This is kind of a surprising answer coming from me (because I hate Riley), but I wish they would have kept his character around and made him more likeable. I'm rewatching s4 and he's really not that bad, but then in s5 he's a disaster and I just hate everything about him. If they could have made his character more awesome, and cut that whole "prostitute" vampire thing, and cut that inferiority complex or whatever it was, I might have actually enjoyed his character a lot more.

So my answer is, instead of just removing Riley entirely (which is also nice), they should have made him into a much more bad-ass character. I know some people like him already, but I just really dislike the person he was in s5, and he really left on a bad note, I think this might be why I'm so bitter about his character.
 
I always thought it would be better if Dawn was younger, like 3/4 ish. Also I don't know if this counts as a season 5 thing but after the whole key thing was over I thought she should've like disappeared and vanished from their memories or whatever. But if she was actually younger it would've been kind of interesting watching the scoobies deal with a toddler after the fact.
 
I would not change anything about season five,except for one big thing, as it is my favorite BTVS season. The one thing would be have "the Gift" be not the season finale,but instead the SERIES finale. 🙂 I love and adore season 6,but season 7 sucked ass,and the comics are even worse,should've ended while it was still great and you couldn't end it with season 6 because there were so many things left unresolved. 🙂
 
Season 5 is my favourite season so I wouldn't change much about it really, only make Dawn actually act like a 14 year old rather than a 10 year old. Less immature and less whiny, I understand the writers were trying to establish sibling rivalry and whatnot, but they could have done it in a way that made Dawn slightly less irritating. That's it, I love everything about this season besides that

I don't really get where people get the immaturity of Dawn to that level? To me she acts exact like a 14 year old would. I know so many 14yo exactly like her (I'm a part time teacher). Meh, that's just my opinion though!

This could have been so weird, yet so interesting, because we would have known about Dawn, then we'd have to watch the Scoobies have absolutely no memories of her, like nothing ever happened. Basically that makes a whole season just disappear (I'm guessing Buffy wouldn't have died?). It's a crazy idea, but if done right could have been really interesting. It's not necessarily something I would have liked to see play out, because I think the ending was perfect as it is now, but it's a neat idea nonetheless.

Yes, many 14 year olds do scream "Get out, get out, get out" but I think it would have been better writing if Dawn was more likeble and a more mature 14 year old really. I would have been more on board with the idea of Buffy wanting to risk her life to protect the key if the character was more likeable. I believe that Dawn was inititally meant to be about 10, so I assume they just wrote the character to be that age really rather than 14.

Lines like this I just couldn't picture a 14 year old saying, but I could picture a 10-12 year old saying: "Riley, my sister's boyfriend, is so into her. Always kissing... and groping. I bet they've even had sex."

I would have written it like Johnathan in "Superstar" where everyone's memory of her slowly disappeared. It could be very annoying, the way the Scoobies didn't realize that Ben was Glory or handled suddenly like "I Will Remember You" or done gradually with people struggling to remember her. It would be interesting to see who retained the final memory of her and I would not necessarily write it to be Buffy. Lots of possibilities here and maybe someone would never forget. So much for my 500th post.

This is now making my brain hurts because I'm thinking of all the possibilities for this scenario to play out. It would have been heart breaking to see them lose the memories bits by bits until they are completely gone.
 
Spend less time on Joyce's health. It was the dominant motif for more than half the season. I liked the idea and the conclusion was powerful, but a little less of it being the focus might have made season 5 a little better I think.
 
For the sake of later Seasons, kill off Spike.
Made Glory less annoying/got a better actress to play her.
Another crossover (not involving vampires) wouldn've been nice.
Use the Knights Of Byzantium a hell of a lot better, thet were in what two episodes, I thought they were going to be bigger/more effective when they showed up.
Hint at another love interest for Buffy (not Ben and not Spike!)

That is all.

I'm fine about the Dawn charactre, and about Riley leaving, and the way Buffy didn't mope over him forever.
 
This is going to be strange for some but my biggest pet peeve with season 5 is that the paramedics just leave Buffy with her mother's body. Maybe it's just cause I'm in the medical field, but paramedics can't pronounce time of death unless death is certain (like decapitation or if rigor mortis has set in). If called to an non witnessed cardiac arrest they would perform CPR until reaching an emergency room and a doctor pronounces time of death. I know the emotion and drama of the scene maybe more important, but I still can't help but yell at the TV every time they just leave her alone.

She was originally supposed to be a 10-12 year old.. but SMG was friends with MT and she got her the job. I think much of the 10-12 year old vibe carried over.
 
There's a lot of things I would change with s5. It's my least favorite. The Dawn/Glory arc I would change in certain places. I'd also change Spike's arc and have him run off with Dru in 'Crush'. Although I do love 'Intervention' so idk.
 
I love season 5 and there honestly isn't much I would change except for the stupid knights. As much as I enjoy the RV fight scene, everytime it showed them I was just like REALLY? Dunno it was a bit much.

Sad to see all the Dawn hate, she really grew on me throughout the rest of the series.
