Change one thing in S5

Spike would either get killed at the end of "Crush" or he would leave with Drusilla, have W&H remove his chip, and become a badass again as he wreaks havoc with Dru and Darla before he is staked by...oh, let's say Lorne. A drunk Lorne.

And give us better reasons for why Buffy doesn't kill his ass in "Primeval" and "Out of My Mind" beyond "eh, she doesn't really feel like it, what harm could he do anyway?"

Thats about Dawn dying and nobody remembering it.
 
But the 'annoying, creepy voice' is a dig at Xander, not Dawn. Also the 'nobody here but Buffy, Willow and Giles...😉

The posts to me at least seemed to bleed on from the wishing Dawn had died comment.

I love the fact that you called him JAM! That will have him locked away in his room playing depressing music for days😀

To me if Dawn had died at the end it just would've made her character pointless. I did find her a bit annoying at times during this season. But in the long term she does grow as a character and MT did a great job in the role.

Well I think this is subjective but to me she was pointless. There was no need for Buffy to become a single mom to help her grow up. No need to make Dawn Buffy's actual sister which required everyone's memories to be altered. And there really was no need for her after the S5 storyline was over, unless someone thinks we needed one more reason for Buffy to be depressed. Which we didn't.

I would have loved for Xander to be the key. Not only would it have given him a storyline but it would have been the perfect cap on the WB years. First of all Xander is someone we know and care about (well some do) instead of a new addition that the audience is still getting to know (and a lot don't care about or flat out hate) by the time The Gift comes. They would have also avoided the memory mindwipe that way. But Buffy sacrificing herself for the person who brought her back to life in the S1 finale? That would have brought the WB years full circle.

I am willing to accept that the whole key storyline and the way it impacts on what has come before in the show was maybe an experiment which didn't work. But I still like that they had the balls to do it. But in a way your point is redudant, because post-S5 Dawn becomes a much stronger character and they move on from the whole key business so from that point of view the show justified keeping her around. Also, once Buffy's mother died then yeah I think it makes perfect sense that she needs to step up and become a strong mum/role model figure for Dawn. I have no issue with that story at all. You can't have Buffy being obsessed with boys forever.

Redundant huh...that's a nice way to dismiss my opinion. What did Dawn do in S6? Honestly? When she complained about not being in Buffy's alternate reality? Or when she whines about Buffy 'never being there' because she has to work to pay the bills? And while S7 Dawn is an ok character she doesn't make a lick of sense based on the character from S5 and S6. Where did the mature, sumerian reading genuis suddenly come from?

Also, once Buffy's mother died then yeah I think it makes perfect sense that she needs to step up and become a strong mum/role model figure for Dawn. I have no issue with that story at all. You can't have Buffy being obsessed with boys forever.

Buffy didn't need to become a single mom to help her gowth preocess is my point. She's been saddled with incredible responsibilities since age 15 and was a mess of a person on every front in the later Seasons largely due to those responsibilities. What I wanted was to see Buffy grow up, period. I wanted for her to figure out her life, what she wanted to do and who she was. I didn't want 'I have a life. I have Dawn's life.' Buffy because that meant no personal growth on her part was possible because her first priority was her child.

And where in my post did I mention Buffy being obsessed with boys? Though I admit it's sad that Buffy's only worth to the creative team is her being locked into the romance box. Thank God for Faith. Now there's a person who managed to grow up and who continues to do so.

Confusion. Anyway, I don't think S5 would've benefitted from less Xander. Barring 'Into The Woods' he was alright here, matured from S4.

I like Dawn's story in S5, and like who she becomes in S7. Hell, she's one of the most likeable characters that season.

This would've made no sense since Xander had been 'key guy' too many times during the high school years for it to turn out that he wasn't actually real.
