Creative ways to rewatch?

I've been rewatching quite a bit over the last couple of years. Buffy is one of my go to shows for slowing down and watching, or having on in the background while I do stuff. I've had a lot of moves recently, so, there's been a lot of background rewatching!

Having just finished the series again, I was contemplating whether I could "rewatch" in some kind of new way. I always notice new things each time I rewatch, even when listening, and I thought maybe if I chose something specific to focus on, I might discover still more.

I'll share the idea I had here, but would love to hear of any ways others have undertaken a "rewatch with focus" or some other creative way you've done your rewatch! Any and all ideas are welcome.

My latest idea is: make my next rewatches focused on the perspective of different characters (who aren't Buffy) as the "hero" character or character you're rooting for most. I made a list, and I'm starting at the top:

1. First, characters who appear in the entire series:
* Xander
* Giles
* Willow (I didn't want to start with Willow since I think she is almost as, if not equally as significant as Buffy by seasons 6 and 7)

2. Next, significant characters who are present for multiple seasons*
* Joyce
* Tara
* Dawn
* Riley
*(I don't have Angel, Spike, Faith, or Cordelia on this section, see next sections)

3. Next, villains:
* Faith
* Spike

4. Then, Angel and Cordelia, since their arcs take them to another series. Not sure if I will follow them through to Angel as part of this effort. Some Angel episodes really annoy me.
* Cordelia (I think this will be one of the most fun to think of as "the hero")
* Angel

5. Next, I thought it would be fun to watch the entire series and try to root for the vampires as if they're the good guys.

6. Finally, and not likely since I'm certain to be sick of this by this time - just the episodes of some fun intermittent characters:
* Andrew
* Jonathan
* Amy

So, there are definitely characters and big bads not on this list, but these are the ones I'm most interested in. Probably for some of these rewatches I won't do the whole series and will skip episodes that aren't very applicable.

How about watching a season main villian ?
Do you have to watch in order, or maybe rewatch starting with the worst rated and going up to the best.

To branch off of this, you could be really sadistic and watch Where The Wild Things Are or Go Fish 144 times. A “what if Buffy was a really bad tv show” rewatch, perhaps. 🙂

Similarly, you could watch She from Angel 110 times for the same reason 😉

What kind of drink. If beer you might last . But if it high proof vodka you wont last half way through the first season.
 
Really weird idea, but what if you watch the first episode, then go to the half way point of the series, then go back and forth in a non-linear story? 1, 72, 2, 73, etc.
 
The camera and dialogue will guide the viewer to watch what they want to draw your attention towards. I find myself on rewatches looking at character's faces away from the center of attention, or just things in the background. You'll catch interesting things that way
 
Ive got another way 😝😅

Watch all the Bangel episodes then the Spuffy ones and decide which ship you like more with a fresh memory.

One time I stayed up all night to watch every episode Faith was in. However, a few of the episodes she's barely in so I just skipped to her scenes in a few episodes like Beauty and the Beasts and Homecoming. And I also watched her episodes on Angel. It was a fun way to watch her story evolve.

Yes I bet seeing her arc was eye opening to her character transformation!! I think it would be cool to work on a collaborative list for each main character—including the main supporting characters like Faith!

I’m chomping at the bit to see what a Ted-focused rewatch would look like.

I’m sure this total human and polite gentleman has a crazy in depth character arc just ripe for analysis!

As a Faith and Fuffy fan, I love a good Faith-centric rewatch! What's wild is that for actual appearances she is only in 26 episodes. 😵 😳
And yeah, some of them her appearances are very short. 15 on BTVS, 6 on ATS, then back to BTVS for the last 5 episodes. You miss out on the mentions of her and she haunts a lot of the themes but this makes it a manageable rewatch. If you are in a rush I agree with skipping as Fuffy Baith mentions above. You can also skip most of ATS 2x01 Judgment, since her only scene is at the very end (talking to Angel).
 
You could watch only the prime number episodes in the seasons. So the list would be:
2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19

I think it would be interesting to watch the first and last episodes of each season. You're missing so much in between but I wonder how that would effect how you view the story.
 
I have been doing a Harmony watch. I started in order but some discs were missing so I skipped ahead to her on Angel instead. Has been fun!

I've been thinking of doing this! I am curious to see her in ATS, I've stumbled across her in the few episodes I've seen. Harmony is under-rated IMO.
