I read it differently. Kennedy doesn't have to like Buffy, half the people on this forum don't actually like Buffy and many questioned Buffy's reaction when Willow revealed she was seeing Tara and wondered if there was a little lesbophobia there.

I agree it's not Buffy's fault, but Buffy is being 'lez-faux' in the experimenting department, playing at a sexuality Kennedy has inhabited her whole life, and that isn't a game to her. I also say again, Kennedy is no fool, she knows something is wrong between her and Willow and that's where he anger comes from and to me that's just very human and understandable.
Ah so Kennedy even feels entitled to keep F/F sexuality all to herself because she’s had it her whole life and Buffy’s ‘playing’ at it. Thanks for adding to my reasons as to why I hate Kennedy 😉

I'm not sure she's actually meant to be 'likable',
I don't think she is. Amanda is though.
one of their peers no less, a "maggot" is a bully imho, not matter the gender.
Okay...but isn't she taking her lead from non-commissioned officers in the Armed Forces (there's precedent with General and Captain), Buffy is leading an Army (quite explicitly in S8) and Kennedy works with them in S9. She's kinda gendered by her name and association. One of Willow's GFs in the comics is the director of the Department of Defense...the next one is a tiny little hippy girl. Like her or not I think Kennedy tells us something about Willow swinging between extremes.
I thought the Kennedy's were beloved in America
I think so...at least a couple of them (Joe was questionable...and some of the others). I just think you can't avoid the connotations. I kinda like the fact that John and Jackie were associated with Camelot and Giles lives in Arthurian country and then there's the scythe in the stone...sigh...probably all coincidence.
American Capitalism is both loved and hated.
I think Capitalism in itself is loved and hated - even by many people who call themselves "Marxists". That said, Marx himself thought the Bourgeois were a dynamic class...he quite admired them. I don't think it's coincidence that Chosen ends with references to consumer capitalism. I don't think BtVS hates America or Capitalism - I do think it's critical of some of the myths and philosophies that have gone into its making...and what Capitalism does to human relations (does Giles give Buffy a cheque because he's a kindly pseudo-father...or is it monies owing being paid to an employee by an employer. Hence the ambivalence of Pangs... I just think it's an incredibly clever text. I honestly think it sees both sides at the same time (which is why I can appreciate S12 even when I hate it).

she just doesn't like posers and people that aren't honest or upfront with themselves.
I agree...and it's why I think her name is so obvious. She does use the Slayers to provide protection for the elite but she doesn't try and disguise it...She pays them a wage...which is more than the WC ever does. I think she's very much an open book.

I put don't care because she doesn't actively bother me the way she did at first. By the end of the S7 I see her more as a natural partner for Willow. Its just I think they rushed their relationship a bit.

And to think that SHE (and Andrew) survived, while Anya died. What a rip off.

I wonder if by then they knew it would carry on in the comics? If so I guess they had plans for Kennedy. I don't mind her surviving really. I don't mind Anya dying neither. Don't forget at the start of S7 she was in a very murky place and for awhile went back to her old ways. Her sacrificing herself is a good way to show her growth and a nice way to end her arc on the show. Yeah Andrew could have gone 😀 I guess they had rememption on their minds for him.

I like Kennedy.

1. She is the only one who wants the job of slayer. With the rest, it's like trying to take a recalcitrant puppy for a walk - they have to be dragged everywhere.

2. She acted as bait for capturing a bringer. She is not ruled by fear even though the people "protecting" her were less than competent.

3. I have a different attitude to her relationship with Willow - she was exactly what Willow needed at the time. There are new people here and I have told this story before, but when we were married, we moved into an apartment where the woman next door was 75 years old and had never married because her one true love (so she thought) had gone off to fight in WWI and never came back. She went through the flapper era, the depression, WWII, the postwar boom and the social revolution of the sixties and never entertained the thought of another man. And you could see that even at 75 she was attractive - she had a figure that would be the envy of most girls a third of her age and a pretty face, so there would never be any lack of suitors. But she never had any guy the equivalent of Kennedy who could break through the shell and get her to see that there was another possibility. Was Kennedy pushy? Yes, but Willow could have driven her away (or turned her into a mouse) if she had really wanted to .

4. She was not after Willow for her magic - it could make them both wealthy and powerful but Kennedy was not into magic or pretending she was into it just to curry favour with Willow.

5. When Willow was turned into Warren, most people would have run off screaming, but Kennedy stuck with Willow even when things got bad. In the end, the kiss that made Willow think she was being unfaithful to Tara was what Willow needed to break away from what could have been a permanent sense of loss and abandonment which was Willow's greatest fear. Her parents neglected her, Xander was oblivious to her, Oz left her, Tara died but Kennedy was willing to stay with her.

1. She is the only one who wants the job of slayer.

She says that but then she skives off going to the desert with Giles, she bullies someone who is weaker than her, and she avoids the majority of the big fight at the end.

2. She acted as bait for capturing a bringer. She is not ruled by fear even though the people "protecting" her were less than competent.

Were they incompetent or were they just fighting the temptation to let her die and be rid of her for good?

3. she was exactly what Willow needed at the time.

No she wasn't, Willow needed time to grieve. If someone is screaming up to the heavens, begging for forgiveness from their dead lover because they kissed someone else, that doesn't exactly scream ready to move on. Not to mention Kennedy invited herself into Willow's bed and refused to leave which left Willow feeling so uncomfortable, she was forced to sleep on the floor of her own bedroom instead.

4. She was not after Willow for her magic - it could make them both wealthy and powerful but Kennedy was not into magic or pretending she was into it just to curry favour with Willow.

Kennedy insulted magic, the thing that brought Willow and Tara together, and called it "a bunch of fairy tale crap". It's one thing to not share an interest with somebody, but don't go insulting that interest to their face. "But it's okay if you like it" is just patronising to Willow and doesn't take away the fact that Willow now knows how little Kennedy thinks of something that was very meaningful to Willow. It's disrespectful.

Kennedy had no respect for Willow. We especially see it when Willow sticks up for Buffy or looks like she's about to.

It was shitty writing to make the thing that caused the problem be the thing that solved the problem. It would be no different than Buffy sleeping with Spike which causes her self loathing but then she sleeps with him again to cure those feelings of self loathing. Emotions don't work like that. The Willow/Kennedy kiss situation basically plays like this:

Willow and Kennedy kiss

WILLOW: I'm so sorry Tara! Please forgive me! I'm such a terrible person!

Kennedy kisses Willow again

WILLOW: Nevermind, I'm good.

Kennedy is a horrible person. Her admitting she's a brat is worse than her not admitting it because it means she knows her behaviour is awful and she just doesn't give a crap. She publicly humiliates a younger girl, someone who was already scared that she was going to be murdered by bringers, then gloats about it with no shred of remorse. When she finds out the girl killed herself and is basically outright told that she played a part in Chloe's suicide, she has no moment of self-reflection like any normal person would do. She doesn't care that her actions helped contribute to Chloe's suicide. Let's not forget the whole mutiny was basically a power play on Kennedy's part. After Buffy leaves and everyone is trying to talk at once, you can hear Kennedy say "perhaps those of us who have been here longest should get a bigger say" so already she's trying to throw the other potentials under the bus for her own gain. She outrights says to Faith that she thought she would get a bigger say with Faith in charge which explains why she was brown nosing Faith so hard. She hates Buffy because Buffy doesn't fall into line with Kennedy's demands. Willow is just a means to an end for Kennedy, look at how quick she starts inserting herself in scooby meetings when Willow finally gives in and becomes her girlfriend after Kennedy sexually harasses her into submission.

She says that but then she skives off going to the desert with Giles
I am sure she's not the only one that wanted to skive off to the desert with Mr. Giles.

she bullies someone who is weaker than her
This proves she is smart. Why would you want to bully someone stronger than you? You generally do bully someone weaker. Buffy, Willow, Spike and even Xander have all bullied someone beneath them.

she avoids the majority of the big fight at the end.
Well, that's because she's not canon fodder and it was more important for her to survive than random generic slayer.

Chances are by the end of the season Kennedy wouldn't have skived off that desert trip. No body said she was perfect of course 😀

I am sure she's not the only one that wanted to skive off to the desert with Mr. Giles.

Regardless of whether the others wanted to skive off, point is they didn't. They went because the desert was part of training. Also they don't keep harping on about how they can't wait to be a slayer.

This proves she is smart.

It proves she's a horrible person. Kennedy is basically an adult bullying a minor. Chloe was younger than Dawn.

Well, that's because she's not canon fodder and it was more important for her to survive than random generic slayer.

We'll have to disagree on this one.

She didn't need the training. She already had it. Why would you go and learn algebra again when you already knew calculus?

Kennedy is basically an adult bullying a minor.
She was acting as a drill sergeant. Drill sergeants "bully" people all the time. She needed to get them ready. Do you think an ubervamp would stop eating her just because she said "I'm a minor"

Not true. Buffy is constantly doing slayer training despite being the actual slayer. There's no graduation ceremony for potentials, no slayer course end date. Constant training is necessary to stay on top of the game. Kennedy mouths off about wanting to be a slayer but she doesn't want to put the effort in if it's inconvenient to her.

She was acting as a drill sergeant. Drill sergeants "bully" people all the time.

Except she's not a "drill sergeant", she's a potential, just like all the others. That scene highlights how Kennedy thinks the other potentials are beneath her. They are her equals, she is not their superior.

What was Chloe's "crime"? She confused her left and her right. Everyone does that at some point in time. Chloe was still doing the right moves. At worst, the "punishment" should've just been to redo the routine from the beginning, not public humiliation. Kennedy deliberately bullied Chloe in that scene then gloated about it. No doubt she'd be the first one to complain if someone called her "maggot" but, being the spoilt brat that she is, she thinks the rules don't apply to her.

She needed to get them ready.

No she didn't. She had no right to assume that role of authority over the others. If anything, that scene again highlights the lack of respect and equality in the Killow relationship: Kennedy is throwing her weight around and lording it over others whilst Willow is reduced to fetching things like a common skivvy.

Do you think an ubervamp would stop eating her just because she said "I'm a minor"

Would an ubervamp stop eating Kenendy just because she's convinced of her own self-importance?

Kennedy is in the same boat as Chloe, she had no right to treat Chloe the way she did.

She had already had a watcher, most of the others did not. When you have someone carry the scythe, it is like the flag bearers of mediaeval wars; the best soldier was selected because if the flag was lost, the battle was lost. Kennedy was the only person to be trusted with the scythe other than Buffy or Faith and she succeeded. She delivered the scythe and entered the battle with relish, saying "I could get used to this" after dusting a few vampires.

Who would you have entrusted the scythe to, Andrew?

Who would you have entrusted the scythe to, Andrew?

Xander. The scythe is useless to the first's forces and once Willow did the spell (which should've been done before they entered the hole), it's just a nifty weapon to have around. Kennedy should've either been in the pit or guarding the entrance.

I voted yes because I appreciate that Kennedy was willing to fight and mobilise the other potentials in a crisis, everyone says she hated Buffy but she was the one asking to go and help her fight the Ubervamp- this girl has no power and wants to help a slayer fight an Ubervamp. Everyone says she’s power hungry but Kennedy is the one to force the other potentials to find Faith before they leave after the bomb went off.
Still, I hate that she called Chloe a maggot and she was too pushy and a brat at times.

He'd probably have some issues with his depth of field running the catacombs and crash into a wall or something. Xander. LOL

At least he's not harping on about how much he wants to be a slayer and fight and then avoids the majority of the big fight. Xander and Willow are life long friends, it's only right he should be there with her. If Xander is good enough to defend the pit entrance and fight off bringers, then he's good enough to protect Willow.
