Drabble 1

"I was surprised to receive your application for our librarian position, Mr. Giles. It says here that you have degrees in history and languages from Oxford University. The one in England."

"Yes, I—"

"And you worked for the last 12 years as a curator at the…let's see here…Travers House museum in London?"

"That's correct. A remarkable private collection. I—"

"I see that you have no experience teaching, and you have previously shown no interest in or aptitude for working with children."

"I—ah—um—"

"Well, we don't like to be too narrow-minded here, Mr. Giles. You're hired."

Drabble 2

“Hi! Welcome to the wonderful world of Mattress World! How can I help?” Exclaimed an extremely perky young woman.

‘A bit redundant.’ Angel thought to himself. He shifted his weight uncomfortably. “I - uh - need a bed?”

“Well, you’ve come to the right place!” She grabbed his arm and led him through the store. “We have memory foam, springboard, firm, plush - you strike me as a firm mattress kinda guy? Am I right about you? I usually have a sixth sense about these things.”

“Actually - plush sounds nice.” Had to beat the cardboard box he had slept in over on 34th.

Drabble 3

“How in heaven's name do you expect me to teach thirty-four students in one class?” Ms. Hamilton was a new teacher at Sunnydale High.

Principal Flutie had assigned the students and the new teacher didn't seem to understand. “Have you ever heard of the Sunnydale High discount?”

“What's that?”

“Watch what happens to the student count. It always decreases over time.”

“Lots of dropouts?”

“Sort of.”

In the first class, she asked one student what he wanted to be when he grew up.

“A drummer for Spinal Tap.”

That explained everything to her satisfaction.

Drabble 4

This was just her luck.

Jenny Calendar slammed her car door and looked around at "downtown" Sunnydale. Not a lot to see, not a lot to do. It was so unfair. Her cousin Rosa had gotten to live it up for years in New York City, occasionally checking to see if Angelus was still eating rats. Anton had spent the last year rubbing elbows with the rich and famous in L.A.

But she got stuck in middle-of-nowhere, dial-up-only California, because Angelus had suddenly decided to live the quiet life. Or so it seemed.

There couldn't be anything important here, right?

Drabble 5

“Xander! Can you believe the Slayer is coming to Sunnydale next month?”

“It’s Slayer, not “the Slayer” Will…Either way, that’s gotta be the biggest band to show up at the good ‘ol Bronze. Hey Jesse, you think we should…Jesse?”

“Yo Xander, look at the hot chick over there, ya that Goth one, I’ve never seen her before. I should go introduce myself”

“Looks like you lost your chance Jesse, she’s already leaving for the back alley with some other guy. Why do they always go to the back alley anyway?”

“You know what Willow, no need to rub it in!”

Drabble 6

The night was bright, a figure darted across the meadow, delicately picking the night blooms. In the distance a woman giggled and danced in the moonlight. I hadnt intended to spy. My telescope out for the full moon, but a blonde flash in the field below caught my eye as the clouds rolled over. I spun the 'scope around to catch a glimpse of the figure in a long black coat. Moving too quick for a mere human. The woman laughed and fell onto a park bench, the silver haired man nowhere in sight. Suddenly, I felt him. Behind me.

Drabble 7

The three teens laughed & joked as they ambled slowly towards the Bronze.
"Hey, shouldn't you be at home doing your homework?" Said the Red-haired Girl.
"Nah! I have a plan. I'll just copy Jesse's."
"Sound plan man. Would be a winner if I had done anything for you to copy."
"You two are never going to graduate at this rate."
"We're cool Will. We're going to get us some wheels & drive to every State in the Union. we've got it all planned out!"
None of them noticed the pair of yellow eyes that watched them hungrily from a dark alley

Drabble 8

As Xander and Willow walked to school, he could see that something was bothering her. It was a cloudy day, and they walked in silence. Xander couldn't take it. "Okay, Will. What's wrong?" She paused. Her face was paler than usual, but her eyes were on fire. "I can't take it, Xander." He looked puzzled. Willow sighed. "Cordelia told Harmony that I wear a training bra, and they point at my chest when I walk by." Xander frowned. But Willow suddenly smiled. "So I put Nair in their shampoo bottles after gym class." Xander laughed. "Glad you're on my side, Will!" They continued the walk to school.

Drabble 9

It was Christmas. Cordelia was in Aspen. Jesse was with his family. Xander was with Willow. They were hiding down in the cave they called the basement. Not even the TV could drown out the noise from upstairs or the noise from within.

Willow took Xander's hand in her own. Xander looked at her. She was staring straight at the TV. Her tiny chest rose and fell. This was the time to speak. Everything could be said. Then Schroeder started hammering on the piano. Xander pulled himself free and jumped to his feet. "It's time for the Snoopy dance," he yelled … and he danced … and he danced.

Drabble 10

He kicked a hockey ball along the dark paved road. The night was hot and dry. The boy fumbled removing his letterman jacket, tripped over the ball and fell on to the street. The ball rolled down the slope of the road, into the drain on the curb. All that was between it and the dark bile smelling sewers below was a metal grid where it rested precariously, just within arms reach. The boy sighed and rolled over to the sewer to retrieve the ball. All he felt was a clamp on his arm, then, a stroke across his neck.

Drabble 11

She stood atop the Bronze smiling, blonde hair blowing in the cool night air.
Still feeling the heady buzz of the nights first kill.
Silly boy had followed her willingly, like a lamb to the slaughter, all too easy.
She had been drawn to this place & the old one that was trapped here.
When she freed him from his prison she would rule by his side. A whole town full of souls hers for the taking.
Her face slipped fluidly into the visage of her true form.
"Hello Sunnydale. I'm Darla & I am going to bleed you dry!"

Drabble 12

The latest issue of Vogue had just arrived, and Cordelia was overjoyed. The glossy pages of the magazine comforted her. As she sipped her diet cocoa, her thoughts wandered. "Why am I in Sunnydale?" She frowned. "Why do I bother with haute couture? I might as well be wearing K-Mart outfits! These losers wouldn't know the difference anyway." She gazed at her Armani jacket and sighed. "I belong with the fashion elite, rich Italian men and adoring paparazzi." She grimaced. "I'm surrounded by peons. Why does God hate me?" But she was Cordelia Chase, damn it. So she pulled herself together, put her game face on, and went to school.

Drabble 13

Concubine to Angelus. Favourite of the Master. That is what they called her. There was no respect in their dead faces. No reverence. Yet, they all longed to possess her and share in her fame. So, she let them fight for her and bloody their knuckles against each other's brutish faces.

The winner was a truly impressive warrior. Darla walked up to him and offered him the goblet of wine. Sanguis Christi. The young warrior drank and the wine burned his insides to ash.

Darla laughed. "Really, boys," she said, "did you really think that any of you were fit to dance inside the whirlwind?"

Soon, the Master would rise.

Drabble 14

The Master had decided that he and Luke should try and have a few games of chess, the Master was fed up with the constant complaining he had done about Luke being a cheat when they played Poker. Besides which The Master was upset that Darla had left to visit her friends Spike and Drusilla. The other game The Master had played with Luke was a flop so now The Master wanted to try a new game as he was fed up with ending up naked while Luke kept warm. A naked Darla had more appeal than a naked Luke.

Drabble 15

Having to roaming the side alleys of Los Angeles, he wandered among the rat infested homes where the homeless lived. He looked at the faces of those that passed by him. Police officers would glance at him, then ignore him, it was as if they wanted more or less. Little did they know it was the man who whistles, he wanted them to know his name in the present tense. He often moved the commercial bins aside so he could see behind them as that what where the rats lived. He so wanted people to how him as the Whistler.

Drabble 16

Cordelia adjusted her rearview mirror to apply her ‘Juicy Tube’ lip gloss. A loud bang startled her out of her beauty routine. She slammed on the brakes and immediately ran out of the car to examine the front for damage.

A woman lying on the street was holding her leg. “Are you crazy? You ran the stop sign. Ah - My leg. I think it’s broken. Can you call-”

“Oh god!” Cordy turned and looked at the woman, horrified. “My dad is going to kill me! Now I’ll never get the convertible I wanted!”

My apologies, but I found another drabble that had been submitted

Oh, so many to choose from. Glad to see such a good turnout.
Very hard do pick only one...

This was fun. Lots of good stuff, though I found myself a definite favourite. I wonder who wrote that. Maybe guessing the authors would be more fun that voting for the best one.

@nightshade Should I wait with commenting on specific stories until the winner is revealed?

All right. I really like no. 12. It reminds me of myself when I was in school. I wasn't into high end fashion, but I read the magazines and watched the TV and surfed the web and concluded that my life would be so much better when I left the dump I was born in and arrived where I deserved to be. I have a bit of an inflated ego and I'm still looking for that place.

4 and 1 are really great. They feel like the start of the greatest rom com ever. 1 has such a nice flow to it and the joke is great. 4 captures Jenny really well. She is a restless person that loves excitement. It grounds her character. She has been given this sacred duty by her family, but she is most concerned with living her life, like everybody else.

The Slayer pun and Angel buying a bed were also very funny 😛

Good job, everyone!

Should the writers get an automatic vote for themselves so they don't have to do it themselves and can vote for someone else?

Anyanka Bunny Slayer

I don't think so. I mean, I'd never vote for myself whatever the case. It just feels like cheating, whatever the case.
