Favorite relationship?

Hi all,

So I was curious to know what is your favorite relationship on Buffy and Angel. It can either be a love relationship or a friend's relationship or even a enemy relationship as long as it is canon. You can also include more than 2 peoples in your answer.

For me, it's the main friendships in the two shows. I loved the scoobies and how they stick up for each other no matter what. The core four would be my main favorite from all the variations of scoobies. On Angel, It would be the AI team in S3 (Angel, Cordelia, Gunn, wesley and Fred) because that's when they are at their best for me.

Buffy and Angel. It transcends the entire show. Their love for each other was so pure. They had a fundamental understanding of each other. They were each others safe place. They could be truly vulnerable with one another while still being co-heroes.

Buffy and Giles before s6. They had a great pseudo father/daughter relationship. I loved how he cared for her way beyond the watcher/slayer relationship. And how she cared for him beyond that as well.


On Angel

Angel and Cordelia before the writers imposed Cangel. They had a quirky yet organic friendship.

I'm very fond of Faith and The Mayor's relationship, it's very weird and twisted - him being evil and all - but I love every moment of it either way and think their interactions is an odd delight whenever I watch season 3-4, never tire of it.

On Angel it's probably the Angel Inc combo - Angel, Cordy, Wes. I think they have a terrific chemistry, work so well as a team, and I resent how Cordy ended up more or less abandoning Wes later. They're family! The three amigos! You can't just leave one man behind.

Spike and Buffy, for being one of the absolute most interesting, intriguing, compelling and complex relationships I've seen in fiction - and I don't just mean the 'romantic/sexual' part of their relationship, but every part of it; being enemies, reluctant allies against Angelus and Drusilla, even more reluctantly forced together in S4 and, well, you all know the rest. It's just too fascinating to ignore, for me.

Wesley and Lilah for very similar reasons as Spuffy, but portrayed in a very different, unique way. Also super fascinating to follow and a lot of fun to watch unfold on a re-watch, when you know what's coming 🙂

Last one goes to the Angel, Wesley, Cordelia friendship trio on AtS, one that - imo - is much better than the one on BtVS.

There are many favs obviously but those 2 are my top choices. I am a Bangel shipper but I also adore the twists and turns between Faith and Angel/us.

Romantically I love Spike and Buffy. The end result of their years of back and forth, and sometimes unhealthy, interactions with each other was a dependable friendship that put down roots for a romance later. They are interesting characters who understand each other completely, and I dig it.

Friendship-y, I'm all for the core four. To have friends that will stand by your side at the end of the world, well, that's something.

I love all the relationships on BtVS, both the romantic and the platonic ones, especially those that involve Willow and Buffy. Willow and Buffy's friendship, Tillow and Spuffy are my very favourites.

I don't really care that much for the relationships of AtS. I would feel totally out of place as a part of Angel Investigations. Cordelia and Angel have some nice moments, but I don't always like it, especially after Connor is taken to Hell by Holtz. Fred and Gunn are cute while they last.

Eh, I liked season five Warren and Katrina. Erase everything you know about season six, Warren builds a sexbot, discovers he likes real girls better, boom character development. I felt her reaction was a bit over the top, after all, Engineering Student, would have the same reaction as Willow to Ted, April and Buffybot. Heck, most college girls I knew would probably want to "play" with her. And you are lying if you claim you didn't laugh at mind slave-Katrina in a maid outfit the first time you watched the episode. Second watch was ruined, of course. In the Opposite Path version of Buffy, they reconcile, and Warren grows up. But, we needed a very bad man for a villain. To Katrina, what a poor choice in a name.

I'm a big fan of the fatherly relationships between Giles and Buffy and maybe even more so between Giles and Willow.

Wesley and Gunn is the most entertaining friendship.

Special shoutout to Fred and everyone, because she can't help having adorable relationships with literally everyone she knows.

My top 10 Buffyverse relationships (romantic and platonic)

1. Angel & Connor – no other relationship in the entire ‘Verse kills me the way these two do, Angel loves his son so much he would let the world burn for him and all Connor wanted was to feel like he belonged and to feel that his father loved him and they just hit me right in my gut
2. Buffy & Angel – my big OTP, the love story I never get sick of, the pairing I’ll ship until my dying day
3. Angel & Darla – the complexities and depth to this relationship will never fail to amaze me, their chemistry is amazing and I love all the different incarnations and sides to their relationship
4. Fred & Gunn – IMO probably the healthiest and best-developed ship in the ‘Verse, these two are so sweet and so natural together and I’ll forever be bitter that they were decimated to make way for Wes
5. Willow & Xander – I adore the history between these two, the way they know one another in their bones and the way Xander would throw everyone aside in order to protect and save Willow (including himself)
6. Angel & Doyle – this was a short friendship but I loved it, as I felt that Doyle was a very pivotal person in Angel’s life, helping him find his new path post-Buffy, and Angel showed Doyle that Doyle himself deserved a second chance and the opportunity to be a hero
7. Cordy & Angel – in a strictly platonic sense, but I adore their friendship, it’s natural and light and I feel that Cordy is one of the few people who genuinely understands Angel (hated that the show tried to make it romantic though)
8. Wes & Gun – before the show threw it out the window for the sake of an insipid love triangle I loved this friendship between two men from completely different walks of life, who found one another and forged a true camaraderie
9. Spike & Fred – I love this friendship and I loved that Fred was someone who never knew Evil!Spike and so she had nothing to cloud her judgment of him and was able to see Souled!Spike for exactly what he was, and I think that Spike needed and deserved that
10. Faith & The Mayor – all Faith ever wanted was love and acceptance and she found it in the Mayor, he cared for her so deeply and showed her the care and affection which comes from a parent, and she adored him and the two of them were just too cute

I love Angel and Faith as friends. I think they have a truly deep connection. Especially true after S9. Redemption buddies!

I love Wesley and Angel. It isn’t perfect, it’s been tumultuous at times but by the time we get to Season 5 it’s understated yet such a deep understanding. I think Angel comes to think of Wes as his most trusted advisor and I love that respect.

I have a soft spot for Buffy and Willow s1-5 and in the comics.
