The Spuffy/Bangel switch thread gave me an idea for all of us who like to read to share a story without issues (if people are up for it, of course). Stories with no real pairings, or where the pairings are not in the spotlight. I already have a few in mind, both that I've been dying to re-read lately. If enough people (Spuffies, Bangels, Fuffies, non-shippers and so on) are up for it, I thought it could be a fun thing to do.

Now, granted, I have a lot more time on my hands than most people, so maybe those currently involved in Spuffy/Bangel fanfic reading threads won't be able to join, but I suspect that this one will be less structured than the others. Giving everyone plenty of time to read whatever story is chosen.

Anyway, if you're interested, leave a message here. I'll start off by giving you a summary of the story that gave me this idea, lord knows some of you may have already read it, as I have 🙂

The Others by DaveTurner - Twisting the Hellmouth
Summary;
Buffy wondered if her mother would keep her room as a shrine to her 'Taken' daughter. One thing was for sure, the instant Dawn turned seventeen, her mom would march her down to the nearest clinic and make sure she got pregnant well before graduation.

A gorgeous, epic piece of fiction that starts in 1999, Sunnydale, and eventually spans to include an alien planet. There are no pairings in this one, the focus being about the journey that the characters go through. My favorite being Buffy's tale, but it's all wonderful.

And if that short summary is too confusing for you, here's what I remember, sans too many spoilers; 1999, aliens arrive on Earth and ask for a certain percentage of teenage girls to be given to them each year, or they'll destroy the planet. Humans soon discover that if a teenage girl is pregnant, then the aliens don't want them, causing most of Sunnydale High to purposely get themselves knocked up. Buffy decides against this and is taken away to another planet.

We follow her adventures on this strange planet with other humans (great OCs, btw) while simultaneously following the gang back in Sunnydale, trying to survive in this horrible new world.

It's a great story and I'll definitely re-read it either way, but would love to be joined by others to discuss it with 🙂

I've never read any long gen fic, so I'd be up for giving this a try!

If anyone is looking for a shorter read, I recommend these two all the time:

Umad Learns Sumerian
by Annakovsky
A fic about learning dead languages, when you're Dawn and it's the summer after season 6.
Words: 1,851

Being Lois Lane
by Yahtzee
In the aftermath of "Becoming, Part Two," Joyce tries to deal with what she knows -- and doesn't know -- about Buffy.
Words: 4,036

This one is really sweet and I enjoyed it very much. I always feel, that those short fics capture the voices of the characters and the athmosphere of a scene so much better, than the epic stories.

After rewatching The Wish, I went looking for some Wishverse fic and remembered this one that I really liked. It's short and told from the perspective of Nancy, the girl who was working with Giles, Oz and Larry.

Morituri Te Salutamus
by Annakovsky
Nancy, in the Wishverse, on being cannon fodder.
Words: 1,124

Oh! Also, @EarthLogic's comment about Spike and Dru in Prague reminded me of @Kairos' short story about that.

The Third Defenestration of Prague
by KairosImprimatur
Why Drusilla was nearly killed by an angry mob, and why the angry mob didn't finish the angry job.
Words: 1,253
