How old were you at first watch?

That’s funny how were they in black and white??

Yeah, cos we didnt have access to the internet back then and he had to burn them from another source for me and some how lost the colour along the way. Its fun to think back to watching it like that as it seemed so exciting at the time.

Interesting! My first burned seasons were great quality. They were bit torrent downloads by bf at the time got for me and the sound was weird but I re-downloaded them. Those were the days when you could download everything!

As soon as I had the money to buy the DVDs I did. I feel like its easier to get access to shows now online than ever before - netflix is miles cheaper than buying dvds (especially when a friend lets ya use theirs 😛 ) Aussie get ripped off with internet data, its better now, but in the early 2000's we were restricted to very little (1-3 gig a month) unless you were very rich. Most people I know have pretty epic DVD collections, where as now, teenagers have shows on their phone memory and can download things on the road! Times changed so fast.

First time I sat down and really watched BtVS (after a year of reading Spander fanfiction) was in 2002 when I was a Freshman in college. I watched S4 then, even though it was S6 that was airing at the time

I was 12 years old when I really started watching the show, but I already saw some bits and pieces when I was like 5. I vaguely remember seeing Buffy and Spike doing something weird against a wall and I didn't understand what was going on 😵 Oh, I was so innocent back then 🙄 I continued watching and really liked this scene:

Anyway, when I was 12, I recognized Buffy on TV and told my sister we should give it a chance. I can't remember which episode, but it was one of early season 2. I didn't take us long before we got completely invested into Bangel and of course the scoobie gang. After a while we started renting the dvd's at the local library. The good old days...😛 Then one day when we went to the library to get our Btvs fix, but soon we realized they only had the complete sets until season 6. There was just one dvd of season 7 we could find, the third one. I decided to watch that one, but my sister refused, because she wanted to understand what was going on. I should have listened to her, because I was confused with the potentials and quickly got turned off by it.

At my sixteenth birthday, I rediscovered the show and my stepdad gifted me the complete series (the only nice thing he has ever done). Finally after all these years I could watch the show in its entirety and now I am obsessed! 😀

I wouldn't let my kids under 13 watch the show post Season 3, I think before that it's all kinda subdued and muted by Season 4 you get wild things and Season 6, Buffy is getting felt up by Spike at every corner. I guess I'd want my kids to be at least high school aged to see that kinda thing. 🙂
LOL you should have seen our faces 😱 The first time watching season 6 was terrible to both me (12) and my sister (10). We didn't have a tv in our bedroom, so we had to watch it in the living room. I remember fast forwarding a lot of Spuffy scenes. The balcony scene traumatized us. We totally didn't understand what was going on with Buffy and why she was doing this to herself.

Funny how I now consider it one of my favorite seasons.

Do you feel that as you have grown up your views on the show have changed if so how?

Definitely! I wasn't able to see how layered the show is, nor the foreshadowing. For example, when I've watched restless for the first time, I was so disappointed. I expected a big finale, but all I've got was vague, confusing dreams. Now, I consider it one of my favorite episodes.
I grew to love analyzing shows mainly due Btvs actually.

Back then I was between 9 or 10 years old - I don't really remember on the episodes of back then. When I grew older I wanted to stay up and watch the episoden since the series was great. But I didn't have seen it each week. But I wasn't a fan of a single character.

The series accompanied me through my adolescence - that means like horrible days in school and quarrel with friends -or with awful things like love sickness.

When I was feeling alone I needed to watch the series and it brought a smile in my face. And the world doesn't seemed that worse anymore. By times in my youth the series my constant companion.

I didn't watch it until my 20s, but I completely understand the escapism and solace it offered. I think I've been doing that with books since I was 5.
I was around thirteen or fourteen, I jumped in around the time Season 4 was airing, but I watched the series completely out of order, basically just keeping up via fan magazines and the internet. I completed the series in 2004-ish, with the last season I watched being Season 6.

Most of my views are pretty much the same, although I remember really not liking Xander and Dawn in my early years of viewing (both characters whom I now adore) and I had a higher opinion of Giles in the early days of viewership.

This series actually brought my husband and I together - twice. The first time was as friends, we bonded over watching Season 1 together, discussing the eps and falling in love with the characters together. Three years later we decided to catch up and have a few drinks and watch some BtVS for old times sake, and ended up completely wasted and making out, which was the start of our romantic relationship.

So I'll always have a soft spot for BtVS for that reason, without it, I might not have ended up with my hubby.

I was either 11 or 12. Which was way too early. Luckily I only caught a few episodes and only really remember Go Fish.

I really got into it at 14 though. Which was honestly probably too young for S6.

Yeah I was a young 14 and didnt see s6 til I was 19 thankfully!
It was around a year and a half/two years ago so I was 19 or 20 🙂 A friend's girlfriend insisted I watch it because it's her favourite show and I listened to her because she was she only person I met who was as interested by tv series and film as I am. Even though in France BtVS is not well liked because most people (including me) watched a few episodes as kids in French (horrible dubbing) and associated it with Charmed (which is good for 3 seasons and then it's crap whereas BtVS is great for a lot longer). So I guess technically I watched a few episodes when I was around 10. But I had almost no memory of them, except Buffy's room and Sarah Michelle Gellar's face and name.

I’m pretty sure I was 12. I had never heard of btvs before that. I’m Brazilian and unfortunately the show is not that popular here. I only started watching it cuz I had just finished the first season of gossip girl and was completely obsessed with Michelle Trachtenberg.

It all started when I was 9 years old. I think the first scene I saw was from OMWF 'What You Feel' with Dawn and Sweet. Because my parents were fans of the show when they were younger and wanted to watch OMWF again because they liked that episode, so they watched that scene/song (What You Feel) on YouTube. So that's the first scene I watched. I still remember that they were pointing at Dawn and saying something like: "That's Buffys sister."
And in the same year, it was my mothers birthday, she got (from my other mother *they're: lesbian gay-type lovers*) the complete dvd box set (season1-7). And so they were watching it.
Then someday I was coming down the stairs and saw the scene in Welcome to the Hellmouth were they're in the Bronze and Giles tells Buffy she has to sence a vampires presence or something. I watched that scene and totally loved it and wanted to watch more. But then I had to go to bed and the next day I didn't think that the show was on DVD, I thought it was on cabel TV. (Idk if 'cabel TV' is right) And I just thought it was a random episode of a show on TV and that we couldn't continue watching, so I didn't ask.
Then the summer holydays came. And 9 year old me had nothing better to do than stand in the hallway and look at the TV to find out what my parents were watching. But they didn't allow me to watch it, and I really wanted to. I normally never do something my parents forbid me to do, but I just wanted to watch that show. So I didn't go back to bed. And because they are used to me always doing what they say, they didn't think I was still standing there. I don't remember wich episode they were watching then. I don't even know if it was season 1 or early season 2. I just know that I was standing there in my pyjama, freezing and still wanting to watch more. Then they realized that I was still watching the show and they said that I should go to bed. But I told them that I wanted to continue watching. They said no, but I didn't go. So they said I shouldn't be standing there because it's too cold and that I should either go to my bed or come to them. Of course I chose to go to them. But I had to promise them that, if I'd get just a single nightmare, I would never watch the show again. And I was wearing a hooded jacket (I even remeber the colour of the jacket: green 😛) over my pyjama. And when scary things came, like vampires, I took the hood of my jacket and covered my face/eyes so I didn't see the scary creatures. That continued for a few weeks, every evening a couple of episodes. Then someday I forgot to cover my eyes and I saw a vampire, but it didn't scare me so I was allowed to continue watching the show without the jacket.
Then we came to the season 2 episode 'Killed by Death' and Der Kindestod (btw that's german for "childs death") really scared me. (Btw that's the only Buffyverse episode that I ever got a nightmard from.) So I told my parents that it scared me, but that I'd promise that I wouldn't get a nightmare. I did. But I didn't tell them and all was well. 🙂 We continued and I watched the episodes that I hadn't seen before with one of my moms.
I became a huge fan and told some of my freinds about the show. Some of them I even told every single episode. So I watched one episode in the evening and the next day I told my friend what happened.
When I finished Btvs with my parents it became clear who of us was the real fan. I "borrowed" the box set all the time and rewatched the show over and over again. I also watched it with friends. (I don't know where in the timeline of that story exactly I have to put the " I watched the show with friends" part, because I did it all the time and I still do.)
My parents also told me about the spin off Angel. I wasn't a big fan of Angel (the character) when I finished watching Btvs, because I became a huge Spuffy fan. But I thought, more Buffy is always great. So I got the Angel dvd box set (season 1-5) for christmas, the next year. (I was 10) Me and my parents watched it and I fell in love with Fred. So at the age of 10 I was a Buffyverse (Btvs and Ats) fan. I also got a few books or so. And when I was 11 I became a "real" Buffyverse collector. Now I'm obsessed with both shows and everything Buffyverse related. (And collecting merch.)

So that's my story of how I discovered the Buffyverse 🙂. (or at least everything I can remember right now) I could talk a lot longer about how I showed my friends the shows than I did in this post 😉.

I was just turning or had just turned 13 when I started watching Buffy Season 4 The Freshman and Angel Season 1 City Of. I can't believe it's been almost 20 years! Both shows are pure comfort food to me and always will be because they were comforting to me back then when I really needed it.

I was 10 when I started watching the show in 1998. I remember seeing the advertisements on TV, they showed the two-hour-premiere on a Friday and I was really into horror to prove my manhood and maturity (lol), but I didn't watch the premiere, as I was not allowed to watch it, I think. But the next day they aired the episode "The Witch" on a Saturday afternoon and I watched it and I was disappointed that it wasn't scary and then I kept on watching every week. I started buying the comics when season 2 came out, and with each new season I got more and more obsessed. My peak of obsession was probably when season 4 and Angel came around, because at that time Buffy was on a longer hiatus and I had forgotten about it and when it came back with season 4, I was so obsessed, I would not stop talking about it and all my friends hated me or being annoying.

I am a little bit shocked, tbh. In Germany exits an age recommendation for every movie and tv-show and Buffy is not suitable for children under the age of 16.

Omg, yes that was so annoying. I remember being 14 and I went to a store to buy the Buffy VHS seasons and they would not sell it to me. I was like "lady, I already watched it all on TV!"

Generally, I think at 10, you could already watch the show, it wasn't that scary or traumatizing. So I am not sure at what age season six should be recommended. I was around 15/16 when season 6 aired and I think many of the things they did in that season, i didn't fully understand until I was older.

I started watching when I was around 8. I stumbled upon a few episodes of season 6 and was immediately hooked.

I was a freshman in high school when I really started to get into it, but technically I watched my first episode when I was 9.
