Hi all,

I was wondering if you could change one thing in the verse that is currently canon what would you change? I know it's hard to choose one so we can have one for Bts and one for Ats. Here are mine:

BTVS: No AR. I would change it to Spike almost killing Buffy instead of raping as I think she would get over that more easily and S7 Spuffy would be more convincing. I mean, he did try to kill her a lot before and it would still be a very intense scene.

ATS: A real realtionship between Fred and Wes. I just can't get over that they only has ONE DAY!!!

What are yours?

BTVS: Tara doesn't die!

Completely agree! They should've had much more time together! 😭 🙁

Ok. It seems like I only care about my favourite couples. But really no couple can be happy if Joss is involved, can it? I feel like in all my favourite couples one partner (or both) die!!! So that's what I'd change...

No Cangel. Instead, they stayed wonderful friends who loved and cared for each other. Angel continued to see Cordy as a little sister and if she died he still would have been just as devastated. Except we would have all been spared the uncomfortable sex scene in Awakening which... yikes!

Imagine, a flashback episode where we see Liam relationship with Katie that mirroirs the one he got with Cordy before she died! I would love it!

awwwwwwwwwwwww
Be careful what you wish for?

Regardless, you knew my meaning.
...Because it might just come true. Basically that's what happened in canon : he gotbwhat he wished for (the soul), but it didn't turn out how he'd hoped.

But yeah I guess I knew what you meant.

Only one thing? 😛

Buffy. No dead Tara. I think that one thing could CHANGE a lot of what comes next. Buffy and Spike in the bathroom comes a close second. But Buffy's not dead, and I think that what people see in that scene, as horrid as it is, depends very much on their feelings about Spike. I see it as an extremely toxic, horrible experience, a culmination of a very violent, transgressive relationship.

Truthfully, if we somehow killed off the Trio earlier in the timeline, a lot of Seeing red doesn't happen at all. So, maybe that's what I want. Kill Warren. Maybe let April (the sex bot) strangle the bastard!

As for Angel? Cordelia's ascension. It changed everything in the series, and set in motion a bunch of horribles that turns the show from something I loved to something that made my stomach turn. If she doesn't ascend, no beast, no Jasmine, no Cordy/Connor, and probably no break up of the best couple in either series, something that seemed to begin with the mess that is the beast... That relationship was singular in the series. It was the one that was healthy and happy and felt true... and made me laugh... Gunn and Fred. I think that Fred and Wesley was always a fantasy. 99% of that relationship consists of obsessive Wesley stalking Fred. There's no THERE there. Gunn and Wesley as a couple actually makes more sense than Fred and Wesley!

Anyway, those are my choices: Kill Warren in season five. Don't let Cordelia ascend; let her come to the realization that she's just NOT that holy or pure... that it's vanity to agree to 'ascend'. Because it appeared that the higher power needed her permission.

____________

The bust up of Fred and Gunn's relationship never made any sense to me in a universe where functional relationships exist. It was like the death of Wash and Tara. Unnecessary.

The sexual politics of those relationships being destroyed is seriously problematical for me. The death of Tara, the twisted up OOC contrivance to break up Fred and Gunn, and the killing of Wash in Firefly all make me wonder if unconventional (gay and/or biracial) pairings cannot be allowed to live in the Jossverse. That very retrogressive message makes me cringe.

BTVS : It's not super important in the grand scheme of things, but rewrite 90 % of AYW so that it isn't Buffy who ends up apologizing for Riley's cheating on her and general shitty behavior. Basically change the whole post break-up narrative where it's shoved down our throat that "it's all Buffy's fault !" when it really isn't. There are some episodes that are bad, but none infuriates me the way AYW does. It's just terrible on all fronts, save for a couple of great scenes.

ATS : No killing off/destroying every single female character for the sake of Angel, Wes, Gunn's man pain. It's not a term I use lightly, but I believe it fully applies here.

Totally agree about the manpain killing of females on Angel. What the heck were they thinking?
All I'd ask is that they had a "series Bible" with solid lore, and not the contradictions and retcons we got.

I also like the idea of the "tides of magic" returning as that would explain why Buffy was needed more than ever as she faced more powerful threats (as so many were exploiting the rise of magic now returning to the Earth after centuries or a thousand years, whatever), and that would also explain why so many were unaware of the supernatural...as it had been mostly dormant (low enough for groups like the Watchers Council to keep in check, forcing vampires underground so that the Master would bide his time before trying to rise, just as the Mayor had to bide his time), but that's now starting to change. This could also explain why the Wicca group in season 4 was a bunch of "Wanna Blessed Bes" but a genuine magical group in season 7.

But for a more conventional answer...

Buffy completely different Buffy in season 7

Angel: either no Cangel, OR make it unique, that is have Cordelia be Cordelia. She can still show growth, but not change her hair blonde (Cordy's ego would never let herself imitate Buffy to get a guy) and just be more Cordelia (such as, "Oh, I promise, you'll never find true happiness with me" in a darkly humorous way that would also reflect on her experience with Xander in addition to her memories of Angelus). I think the writers felt Cangel had to happen to motivate Angel to search so hard for her and to be so determined to move the plot forward, but one doesn't have to be romantically in love with someone to go to the ends of the earth like that, at least not someone like Angel.

What would your S7 Buffy be like? How would she be different?
BtVS: Not dragging Buffy through the dirt in the later seasons in the character assassination sense. Let her be a bit more of a role model. SMG was generally right on this subject, starting with the Parker decision being out of character. Writers never listened to her, but her instincts were accurate to the early character she loved. She lost her spark when SMG was clearly not as happy with the role as she had been. Season 7 is the most painful to watch, because SMG just looks like her heart wasn't in it anymore after losing grasp of the character.

AtS: No Cangel. It wasn't needed to make losing Cordy hurt Angel any less. It would actually have been more powerful with the brother/sister and father/daughter dynamic they had going on until that point. Both characters had to be changed into what they are not to make them compatible, which actually proved how forced it was. They also lost their brain cells in regards to the curse and how any kind of real, genuine feelings were actually dangerous. Angel can ultimately be written off as him being lonely and desperate for his son to have a mother figure due to his feelings of inadequacy as a parent. His need for Connor to have a full family, IMO, has a lot to do with how he gloms onto Cordy's maternal surrogacy. It's tougher to reconcile the Cordy who proclaimed Angel was a eunuch to one who didn't seem to remember the curse. I also have issues with Cordy's lack of observation skills and awareness in regards to Angel's state of mind starting in Pylea, but also later with Groo again. In both cases, Wesley was the only one of the Fang Gang who understood or noticed when Angel was freaking out about his demon and feeling left out from the group (such as the group hug in the sunshine). Pylea is about where Cordy started to get her brain transplant. By comparison, Jasmine's takeover was refreshing because at least you know it's actually another entity entirely and all OOC behavior is explained. I have far more problems with Saint!Cordy than Evil!Cordy/Jasdelia.

Buffy: no ruining of the friendships that Spike had started to create in order to have Spuffy in season 6. Dawn and Spike got on great, and we had lots of lovely moments between then that vanished as soon as Spike got with Buffy, we had some little bits of friendship building up between Spike and Buffy, which I wish they had continued.

Angel: No Connor, I like Connor but take him out and we could have had a whole different season 3 and 4, no Connor, no Jasmine. However I would enjoyed seeing more of Darla again.

BtVS: Stop trying to make Spuffy look like something special by trashing almost ever other relationship that Buffy has with somebody in S6/7. Also have Buffy behave better in S7, tell Spike to f-off when he starts with the whole 'I got a soul for you' emotional blackmail (Something along the lines of 'I didn't ASK you to do anything other than stop trying to rape me, and you didn't even do that. I STOPPED you.') and maybe continue counting on her friends like she'd counted on them so many times before.

AtS: Faith doesn't go to jail but instead joins AI and helps out Angel. Much better all round and much nastiness avoided.
