If you could remove one character from the verse?

Hi all,

Ok so same as my other thread but with characters. Tell us which character you would remove and why?

Mine would be Kennedy. She isn't the worst character but she is the one that is most problematic for me. I don't like her. I don't like her story with Willow. I don't like the actress playing her. I strongly believe Willow's story would have been better without her. The only qualities that I like about Kennedy could be transfered to any other potential slayer as they weren't very flesh out anyway.

Which one is yours?
 
Willow. Far too many reasons to list as it has been listed multiple times already. The most hated character in all of Buffyverse for me. (Actually I hate Lorne more but I find it easier to ignore him... cant really ignore Willow)

I'm curious would you replace her with someone else or just have her disapear? Would you prefer Pike?

You could not F up the continuity with Pike. It's f'ed up enough as it is being a reboot that references the movie it rebooted but that would just be even more wronger to have Pike in there.

Maybe Willow dies instead of Jesse. Or Angelus kills Willow. She started to get most of her obnoxious traits in S2 anyway.

Have Buffy stay single for an actual whole season, instead of this 'I need a boyfriend to be happy' message that you're sending. Especially when said boyfriend clearly isn't right for you but you don't see it cause the writers don't want you to.

Ugh.
 
Kennedy. I just do not like her and her kind of behavior, special towards Buffy. She is too cheeky for me. Just like Rona and closely followed by Dawn. But you also said just one - so it's Kennedy for me 🙂

Just curious: why do you hate Lorne so much Spanky? I have to admit he's hardly hated by anyone

I hate characters that are just there for comedy moments. I actually liked the Host, but (roughly) when the Host became Lorne that's when I signed off.

As an addendum to my karma post above, that's also why I dislike Xander for much of the first seasons. I really didn't start to like Xander until the last few seasons.

Okay, that makes sense.
I would really like to see what the later seasons looked like without Spike in them. Not because I hate him (though I'm not his biggest fan in the later seasons), but just because once you put a villain in your main cast, you really have to reshape things around that (because eventually s/he either needs to be defeated or become a part of the team to justify keeping them around). So I just would like to see what storylines they would have come up with instead. And the answer could totally be "none" because the show got canceled, but if I could peek into an alternate timeline, it would be fun to know.

I don't think it would change much. Willow would've still realized she is a lesbian, continued her moral descent with magic, and explored what it means to be all powerful when you never learned to have inner power. Xander would still be afraid of turning into his abusive alcoholic father and continue learning how to shed his "Nice Guy" perceptions. Giles would still deal with what his life is supposed to be now that his Slayer outranks him in experience (if not Oxford & WC academics).

Buffy would still be the Slayer, university student, freelance agent with the US gov, mother of The Key, lose her mom to cancer, ripped out of Heaven, Guidance Counselor, new head of the Watcher's Council training Potentials, Queen of the Slayers, female half of the Twilight prophecy, owner of the Scythe & the book of magick, destroyer of The Seed, and eventual police officer.

It would be interesting to see how Buffy would cope in s6 without sex as an antidepressant. And if in s10 the "love dares you" & mind walk would be with Angel. Buffy deserved a chance to see if that relationship could work when outside influences weren't trying to tear them apart or punish her for choosing him and to find out about IWRY.

A few things I would want...

* Dawn's Keyness to be what closes the Hellmouth.
* The rift between Giles & Buffy to be about his trauma in losing the organization his family had been a part of for a century and he was a part of for decades.

I've always had this perhaps irrational annoyance with Fred for making Cordelia less important. Before Fred, Cordelia was the only woman and the only "civilian" - meaning that her backstory wasn't immortal vampire, rouge Illuminati agent or orphaned street warrior. Once Fred comes, they give Cordelia super-powers, make her a love interest and then turn her evil. It is as though they were afraid of her becoming redundant, even though she was so essential to the first two seasons.

Fred is enjoyable enough, but she does not add much to the show that I couldn't do without.
