LGBTQ acceptance dropping among Millennials

Buffy being a girl hero was a selling point for the original show. It only seems tendentious until you've watched the final product, as I am sure Monica Owusu-Breen has plenty of ideas.

A lot of grrrl power in 90s pop culture was extremely tendentious. It was a trend, and BtVS was apart of that trend, but it stood out from many of its contemporaries by being a solid product.

Even my gay friends hate the lgbwtf culture. They were against marriage "equality" too, they considered themselves joined by legal civil union 10 years before the hoopla.

My step sister, and most on facebook on the other hand, turned NASTY around 2015. I duno what intergallactic change happened, but something did.

The extreme hatered towards religion and spirituality is what turned me right off supporting that movement in any way. Before that, I feel there was far more acceptance all round. The marriage debate made us pick sides.

I've also worked with trans children from psych wards and I cannot support the excessive drugging that the trans community supports. These poor kids were confused by the medical system as much as they were by their genitals. And then come the hormones. Hormones are bad enough, let alone pumping people full of synthetic ones for body shape fashion.
Sigh.....my understanding of hormones is that trans kids are put on puberty blockers to delay puberty because if you don't feel you are the gender you were born or you have doubts then going through puberty in the wrong gender is going to be stressful I mean my God puberty is stressful enough for cis kids. The idea is that you delay puberty for as long as you can to give the kid as much mental maturity you can so they can decide if they want to develop as cis in which case they come off the blockers or trans in which case their hormones are swapped. Let's face it being trans or gender queer and adolescent are both confusing in and of themselves. I can't believe that letting trans kids develop 'normally' is going to be less stressful for the kids or that trans community encourages 'excessive' use of hormones. Whatever you think of it there are going to be good reasons behind it even if it's lesser of two evils ones. Hormones are a necessity for trans people and in some cases surgery.

As for divisions within LGBT+ they are going to be conflicts within any community. You do get a radical feminist lesbian element that hates trans people and there are actually straight people who'd like civil partnerships too and straight people who have unconventional consental non monogamous relationships. Gay marriage is still a good thing for people who want it.

Totally - no medical professional would allow anyone under 16 to start on hormones. They only have puberty blockers until they are old enough for hormone replacement. I'm not sure what kind of "excessive drugging" you think is involved.
Another example is them trying to turn male characters into women. They got away with it with The Doctor, though it still felt unnecessary, yet they're trying to push for a female Bond. Why can't they just create new characters instead of gender swapping male ones that people love. What's next, Hannah Solo?
Because the character is a character, not a gender.
The Doctor is from a race that regenerates into a whole new body. It makes sense that the new body could be any gender.
Bond is 007 - a designation - not a gender. It makes sense that the new 007 could be any gender.

I think the problem is that they have all been male in the past, and everyone just accepts it as the status quo without questioning it. But as soon as someone does, all the cis, het, white men complain because they see the raising of a woman to the position of a man, feels like oppression, instead of a genuine example of equality.

Except that James Bond is based on a character from a book - who is male. That's like deciding to remake King's Misery but then gender-bending the two main characters. Why is it necessary? Why not make new material that has strong female characters?

I disagree that James Bond can't be re-written as a female character, but I do agree that the way forward is to write good and original female characters.
Why not make new material
Regardless of gender or anything else, fans have a difficult time consuming new material. More people will see recycled IP that they are, in some ways, already familiar with than seeing something new. Why not make new material? Fandom.

There was enough rickus when they dated to cast a blond as 007.

I think they complain because the result is poor quality.
Sometimes the Ghostbusters remake suffered from both anti SJWs backlash and just being poor.

PRIDE month is actually more important than Christmas. At least it's about real people who are currently alive and not being treated equal, instead of being about a stolen festival made up to try and convert Pagans to Christianity.

Ah, I see. To sway people to your cause, you're going knock others' beliefs....how's that working out for you?

I'm agnostic-leaning-atheist (who celebrates Christian holidays). This is the attitude that makes me side with the religious just because I don't like how they're treated. I'm stuck between arguing history/science and supporting them simultaneously.

You don't have to be a white man to think gender bending male characters is an unnecessary thing to do.

It vastly depends on the character. The Doctor and Master isn't a stretch as they're aliens that regenerate bodies Bond might be harder to justify.

The Master was always notorious for regeneration fails (extra crispy, body-swapper, snake-a-licious and Skeletor make Missy downright tame--plus great acting), but "grandfather" was the first thing we learned about the noticeably hetero male Doctor.

That's the point. Doctor Who got away with it on account that time lords regenerate so regenerating into a woman isn't beyond the realm of possibility. Making Bond a woman is deliberately ticking a box. Bond is and always should be a bloke.

You forgot the straight part. It was all straight white men, not all white men.

Bond's male - 007 isn't. It's a code name - the function of which is to mask the person behind the number. 007 could be a talking fish or a sentient wardrobe. 🆒 I'm quite taken with the idea of the latter.

007 is Bond, much like 006 was Trevelyan. With the old (superior) Bond movies, they could've maybe gone with the fan theory that "James Bond" is also a code name, hence why he looks so different in the movies when they change actor (which would also enable opportunity for a black Bond). However the Daniel Craig movies made Bond his actual name which means that unless they do another reboot of the franchise, they can't just have Bond change race or gender.

The old Bond movies had much better theme songs than the Daniel Craig ones.

Although Adele rules, I'd have to agree on that last part :)

Canada actually had a diplomatic courier whose real name was James Bond.

Let’s make Bond a lesbian in a reboot, so she can still be a flirtatious ladies’ woman.

I am not completely sold on the gender-swapping male character trends for the sake of “girl power”. I will say the Doctor didn’t bother me because the Doctor’s origins allow for it. But all male characters don’t need to be gender swapped. I think it would be more powerful to create a new franchise with a female powerhouse.

This goes back to the reboot trend too. Hollywood is so capitalistic, it would prefer a rehash if old art instead of trying something new. If unrelated to a “brand,” execs have a hard time justifying a budget. But they forget at one point all these rehashed brands were once a killer concept. At a time of cultural diversity we should be adding new, more imaginative characters instead of gender, sexuality- or race-swapping old ones.

Which goes back to the idea that millennials are tired of everything being so “woke,” making their acceptance of LGBT+ decline.

Way to overreact. That statement does not knock anyone's beliefs. Christianity became the dominant religion of the world hundreds of years ago and Christmas is celebrated globally. Pride has only been going on for a few decades and is trying to create change in the present. None of this should be controversial.

You think that was overreacting? Go back a few years and read some of my posts. 😅

I don't really see where your response was overreacting at all, considering what the original post said.
I find these theories that it has becoming too much "in your face" rather interesting.
That there is a backlash because many are becoming fed up with all the talk or something like that.

That might very well be the case. I really don't know... but I just can't get along with that kind of thinking.

So, those guys over there are really annoying with their constant nagging about a subject.
That other guy though, who stands on the other side, hasn't bother be a bit. Has even been quite nice perhaps.
But yeah. I am still not gonna accept you. Because... you know. Those other guys are really, really annoying.

What kind of thinking is that?

I think it's more, that guy over there is great, I have no idea what his sexuality is and I don't care. Those guys however are annoying me because they are doing..insert whatever here.
