Michelle Trachtenberg's Appearance Concerns Fans

I don’t think anyone should be cruel or nasty.
From looking at the comments on her post, it doesn't appear that fans are being nasty at all - rather, the fans seem to be coming from a place of concern. Michelle is certainly not ugly, and she doesn't look old either. She just looks too thin, which can make you look ill.

Those who knew me when I first joined will likely remember I was a hardcore Michelle Trachtenberg fan back then. I am not these days. As an adult I now realize she is actually a bit... hardass-y? for my liking. Too quick to get defensive and call everyone a hater. I noticed it years ago. Not really my thing. But to each their own.

I'm not going to speculate.

Out in the 'real world' women have it hard enough being judged on their looks and age (not that men aren't either, but it's mostly women who face this scrutiny), and it's magnified in the land of Hollywood.

They put on weight - they're too fat. They lose weight, now they're too thin. They get older, and it's comments like, "what happened to them?"
Or they end up getting plastic surgery and it's, "they ruined their face". Apparently, you're not supposed to age, because God forbid. 🤣

Especially when they start getting close to 40. Or, worse, past it.

I find a charm in movies from the 70s, a little of the 80s, and in some foreign media where people look like people rather than models (often including the men) who go to the spa everyday. Or, gasp, teens who look like teens (who don't use a spa).
Oh dear, I saw the thread title and thought "probably an overreaction", but honestly the first two pictures startled me. Maybe they are just bad pictures but her eyes look very peculiar, if I hadn't known who it was, I wouldn't have guessed Michelle Trachtenberg. But I haven't really seen her in anything since Criminal Minds, which is about 10 years ago. And the reunion of course, but thought she looked the same then.

Definitely a little startling to me as well. I was concerned when I saw the pictures. I do genuinely hope she is ok, or will be ok if she isn't now.
The one picture I definitely think it’s the angle that makes it/her look … different… like her eyes look different which freaks me out; they’re like bulging out. The whites in her eyes looking yellow is scary too I hope she’s actually okay. And I wish she didn’t put so much thought into Instagram; she probably should delete that app and go back to living her best life.

I duno if the comments I read the other day on the scroll are deleted now, but what I read was revolting.

On a fan forum (not that anything here has been even close to the gross in her comments) is far different than going to her personal professional page to swear at her and demand health tests and explainations . That "concern" is thinly veiled condemnation for looking different.

Plus, even if she is sick shes under no obligation to be treated. Some commenters were just weird in their expectations. Maybe transference on my part, but I HATE being told to go to a doctor. I dont follow her, but this was just an observation of what I read the other day.

She has worn very thick black eye makeup since at least 2003, gotta wonder how that affects the eyeballs down the track too.

Cosmetics prematurely age you primarily, not much else than that. If they're causing eye-issues it's more to do with you getting the makeup into your eyeballs directly which is y'know, obviously bad. To be clear I'm not speculating on Michelle's health.

Edit: That is terrifying and sounds like an allergic reaction. @November

I had a friend who had constant crusty yellow eyes from her eyeliner. She didnt know why it was happening, cos every new eyeliner was infected by her eyes and it went on for YEARS.
I don't know I look at those pictures of Michelle and wonder why she and others in Hollywood resort to wanting to turn back the clock by nipping, tucking, fillers ect. I get it Hollywood is cruel to women and sometimes men in the aging process. And that one needs to work, films, movies, plays ect. What happened to growing old gracefully. Vanity. I can't say that I don't think about or wouldn't want shaping, or a little cosmetic touch up. But seeing someone like this and... I shake my head and shudder. When is it too much. Yes everyone has the right to do what pleases them and makes them feel happy. However when one is 64 and pushing 70 trying to look 20 again that's when intervention or really looking in the mirror and saying wtf am I doing? Just my 2 cents. Not trying to offend anyone just trying g to understand.

Now who are these ladies?
While thinking of it more in retrospect, and it may be I was just tuning in, but it seemed that the 90s got really bad, and it just got worse. Never mind that such "necessary" conditions don't seem necessary in many other nations, or even earlier American media (like Angela Lansbury). I wonder if the cosmetic surgery industry had something to do with it via the right marketing and some "free samples" Nestle style?

My mom was a model before that who described downright gruesome stuff to look right for the camera (back before Photoshop, though I think the standards are still draconian, even if AI seems to be phasing actual models out somewhat), but I could tell the difference between a model and actress back then, even telling one who had to know which one was the model, but now about the only difference of note is that the actress is probably shorter (if she's exceptionally tall then I probably couldn't tell the difference anymore, not in US media anyway).

There have a been a lot of additional stories popping up since the first one was released. It is so unfortunate she has to deal with this. Some of it is just plain harassment and some is genuine concern. Either way all the attention has to be nerve racking and hard to deal with.
I feel for her. It's kind of an invasion of privacy in a round about way in my eyes.

She looks much more like Amber Benson now, but whereas Amber looked natural, this looks distinctly…wrong, somehow.

I think people are absolutely valid to have concerns and worry. The life of a child actor is notoriously abysmal! Just look at cases like Jake Lloyd from the Star Wars franchise or Corey Feldman! Even Maculley Culkin! I wouldn’t be surprised if Michelle was just another victim of the meat grinder machine that is child acting, and I worry that it has affected her negatively seeing her like this.

Madonna, both pics

Michelle has been posting more pics and I'm not gonna lie, she does look strange. Very thin and pale.

This one particularly concerns me.

We can all say that this could be just a result of aging or lighting or whatever but let's be honest here. She does not look well. She looks sick. I really hope she is okay.

What if she's telling the truth and it's just her aging? I think people find that idea scary and need to convince themselves there has to be something wrong, that it's not natural. Like some kind of defense mechanism. Their concern about her health sounds more like an excuse to morally justify their critics tbh.

Natural signs of aging do not include being emaciated, yellowing eyes and sunken cheeks.

You say it better than I do!
@Joan the Vampire Slayer

There's no formula in regard to "natural signs of aging", everyone is different. Saying it's not natural because it doesn't happen to most people is like saying having blue eyes is unnatural because most people have brown eyes, that's a logical fallacy. There are also people losing hair while others don't, some people's hair turns gray at a young age while others' don't, etc. Unless you're a doctor and can certify those things you mentioned can't happen because of natural aging.

In fact, if you type "weight loss aging" or "sunken cheeks aging" on Google, you're gonna find a lot of results suggesting natural aging can cause these things.

You bring a good point up! I do think people on the whole are more enamored with celebrity goings-on than they probably should, self included!

The comments on her Instagram are enough to drive anyone to body dysmorphia or an eating disorder. Michelle is one tough chick to have put up with this for so long.

It could happen because someone is sick or it could be aging, I don't think there's any symptom that can only be a sign of one thing. But you don't have to be a doctor to feel something might be off with someone, you just can't diagnose if you're not a doctor.
