Sigh...I was going to give it high marks...and then that effing ending ruined everything. It was The Lovely Bones all over again. Dammit!

I get that it's 'symbolism' or whatever, but the fact that we don't even get to see or meet their father, after everything...that we don't even get to see the heartwarming moment between father and son? Ian wasn't the only main character in this story and it just irritated me to no end! 🙁

I was actually glad that we didn’t get to see the father because I can’t imagine how they could have it play out that wouldn’t feel anticlimactic but I know you’re not the only one who felt disappointed by that. I think even though there’s 2 mains we’re definitely supposed to see the film through Ian’s perspective and since he gave up seeing his dad for his brother that sacrifice wouldn’t mean as much if we could see Barley and the dad talking when he couldn’t 🤷‍♀️
 
The Perks of Being a Wallflower - 2 thumbs WAY up! Maybe right up there with Ordinary People & Rachel Getting Married for troubled yet relatable people movies. 💛

Knives Out - 8/10

Well-written with a great cast, this film ended up being different to what I was expecting but it was still a great watch! Would highly recommend, especially if you like mysteries!

(Re-watch) I Know What You Did Last Summer - 6/10

Still a fun watch but it has a real characterisation problem and there are too many instances where the characters do stupid stuff which gets others killed. Definitely misses the nuance and depth of some of Williams' other scripts.
 
Juno (2007) 7.5/10

Doesn't quite live up to the hype it got, but Diablo Cody's script is really sharp, and full of realism and character depth. It takes a refreshing look at the subject of teen pregnancy also (by actually having a discussion about the options). A strong ensemble cast kept me engrossed and the ending is very moving. Plus I now want to check out 1970's slasher The Wizard of Gore (which I figured was just made up for the film).
 
Star Trek: Into Darkness (2013) 4/10

Bland and generic blockbuster which doesn't feel like a Star Trek movie. The plot is a mess and dialogue awful. Cumberbatch is totally wasted. And I can't believe they did a re-run of the end of Wrath of Khan except swapping the roles around!
 
Mulan (1998) 8/10
I really enjoyed the character of Mulan and the film had great humour, heart and songs.
I hope the remake comes to cinemas as soon as they reopen.

This was a really sweet and above average continuation of the Winnie the Pooh story.
 
Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl 9/10
Still love it. Jack Sparrow is one of the best characters ever created, though most other characters were also interesting in their own right. Great writing, acting and set design. Liked that it wasn’t afraid to poke fun at the pirate genre.

Office Space (1999) 9/10
Underrated film. Gets better with each watch. Realistic yet hilarious depiction of what it’s like to work in an office. All the actors were great in their roles.

Jojo Rabbit - 7/10
This is an interesting film. It's a comedy about a young boy in Nazi Germany who idealizes Hitler and wants to be a Nazi. While I do find a comedy about Nazi's to be, a bit...odd? Troubling? Idk, it's conflicting emotions for me. I did enjoy this film and Taika Waititi did a great job directing, and hilarious as Hitler. As the film goes on, you realize that this is all about making fun of how ridiculous Nazi thinking is. Scarlet Johannson is really good in the role, Sam Rockwell is hilarious and great! I loved Jojo's little friend Yorkie. So, overall I liked this film, but I could understand if someone took offense with how the subject material is handled.

Oh I just watched this for the first time, even though I knew a lot about it. Solid movie, really funny, and the 90's rap music was a great choice.
