Rewatching Restless

Buffy's, by far.

I just find it incredibly interesting as it foreshadows so much of what's yet to come ("that clock is all wrong"/ "Be back before Dawn") and hints at a spiritual link between Buffy/Faith ("Faith and I just made that bed" - that was Faith's dream in This Years Girl). It also explores the ambiguity of a Slayer's true nature and what makes Buffy my favourite character of all time when she rejects what is pre-determined and decided for her ("I walk. I talk. I shop. I sneeze. I'm going to be a fireman when the floods roll back. There's trees in the desert now since you moved out and I don't sleep on a bed of bones. Now give me back my friends").

All of the dreams are such wonderful insights into the characters and do foreshadow future events to some degree but Buffy's is the most grandiose and epic in scope and the cinematography throughout her dream is particularly gorgeous. Buffy is also my favourite character of course, so that helps.

I am unable to make up my mind. The episode is just so fun from start to finish. I think Willow and Xander win by a small margin for me. If you put a gun to my head, I may say Xander. Snyder-as-Kurtz telling him about seeing him at the guidance counselor's office is just too funny. But... I don't know. Willow backstage with Riley and Giles, Buffy and Ophelia at the fair are amazing, too.

I think I liked them all...even Xander's, whom I dislike.

A favourite of mine is willow's...foreshadows some of her darkness and examines her self-loathing. Plus Harmony!

Overall I think just about xanders which is also the longest one. I love the scene in the park. Buffy in the sand pit, Giles and Spike on the swings and xander seeing himself selling ice creams. The music is also fantastic for this episode. I also love how everyone starts to speak in French to Xander. I know his dad is not the same as the wedding and is a bit younger bug I have a theory. I think it is how xander remembers him, probably from when xander is a lot younger and really scared of him.

It's also interesting how people talk to Xander without moving their lips. Not sure what the message behind that is.

However, my favourite character from this episode has got to be the cheese man 🧀
