It's fight night! Not that silly Trump vs Clinton thing, no - I'm talking about the fight for the ages! The duel of the underdogs... The battle of the belittled... The contest of the cast-outs! The two most hated main characters of 'Buffy' duke it out!

On one corner: The boyfriend of boredom... the cardboard captain... the puppy-dog-faced fool... Riley! The mama's boy! Finn!

Sure you are.

And on the other corner: The brat of barfyness... The over-pushy pain-in-the ass... The rich, spoiled rebound... Kennedy! The annoying! No-last-name!

Don't you wag your eyebrow at me, young lady! I was just telling it like it is!

So, who's it gonna be? The boring, or the brat? Make your choice!

Riley wins hands down. Kennedy can get eaten by the turok-han for all I care, I'd root for the turok-han.

The two most hated main characters of 'Buffy' duke it out!

According to the favourite/least favourite thread, Parker and Veruca are the two most hated characters. Riley didn't make the top 11 hated characters list but Kennedy did.

Well, I did say "The two most hated main characters". Parker and Veruca were very minor characters.

I did not see the main lol, though I wouldn't count Kennedy as a main character since she never made it to "regular". She is to Buffy what Scrappy doo was to Scooby doo. Kennedy is the scrappy doo of the Scooby gang.

Well, Kennedy was in almost all of the episodes after she's introduced, so I'm counting her as a main character. Like Tara, who was also not a series regular.

I picked Riley, but I don't mind either character. We get to know Riley more than Kennedy though. He's more dynamic, serves a greater purpose in the story and he's a warmer character. Personality wise, I prefer Riley to Kennedy.
The problem with the fans Riley is really that he came after Angel and before Spike, and Kennedy's problem is that she came after Tara.
I was mostly indifferent to Riley in S4. I only saw that season once and it was a crushing disappointment after S3. I missed Angel and the high school. I watched S5 recently and I liked Riley even if the writers were unfair to him and wrote him out of the story pretty badly.

I don't feel the warm fuzzies for Riley, but Kennedy - ugh. I can't believe I'm voting for Riley as the one I like.

I feel like a lot of people will pick Riley because they dislike Kennedy. I don't hate Kennedy. But I pick Riley because he was in it longer and I did genuinely like him. (Plus he was hot).

Kennedy is totally hot :P
I personally picked Kennedy. I like them both a lot (I have a soft spot for unpopular characters, and they really didn't deserve all the hate), but:

1) I think Iyari Limon is a much better actress than Marc Blucas.
2) She's also hotter.
3) I think Kennedy performed her role in the story better than Riley ever did. Riley was supposed to be the new Angel - a big, important character, the main love interest, a conflicted hero we were supposed to REALLY care about. And in that regard, he failed. Big time. He was okay, but he wasn't nearly as good as he was supposed to be. Kennedy, however, was always supposed to fill a much smaller role - she Willow's rebound. She's there to help Willow move 0n after the death of Tara, and that's it. Which is a good, important story, but her role in it is just not very big. And in that role, Kennedy was perfectly good. I have almost no problems with her, really. I would change quite a few things about season 7 if I could, but I would keep Kennedy almost the same. She performed her small role perfectly well.
4) Kennedy is VERY good in the comics. That moment near the end of season 8, when Kennedy holds Willow's broken body, while Willow calls out to Aluwyn? Total tearjerker. It's even better than Riley's "but she doesn't love me" from 5x03.

I like both of these characters, they both seem pretty harshly judged. I picked Riley because I pity him more. He had lis life sorted before he met Buffy, then she opened his eyes to a different way of living and his world turned upside down. He knew Buffy didn't love him and to love someone who doesn't love you must be horrible.

Riley. He didn't come into the group and automatically act like a know-it-all. He made mistakes, he acknowledged when he was wrong, and he learned/changed from those experiences.
S4 is basically him realizing that his world view is very skewed and making a choice to change.

Kennedy, whilst she has some redeeming qualities, had a bratty, arrogant attitude and always gave the impression that felt really entitled to stuff (like Willow for example). I dislike that in a character, that demanding 'look at me! look at me!' quality is obnoxious.

I didn't like Riley at all. I picked Kennedy. I liked how she was all "I don't believe in this magic crap, but if it's important to you then it's cool" kind of mentality rather than Riley being a lot more black and white and taking about an episode to deal with it all (like with Oz being a werewolf) It was never a competition with Kennedy of who had the most power whereas Riley felt like he needed to be stronger to date Buffy.

Yes, Kennedy was a brat, but I felt like she had a more interesting personality than Riley

I voted for Riley, I really don't like Kennedy! As Topher mentioned I don't like that she feels entitled or that she HAS to be included. And I have no idea what Willow sees in her, I don't think the actresses have any chemistry, and I've never found her to be attractive. Riley does have the benefit of being on the show a little bit longer though, so we see more of his character and who he is and how he changes. He's a little boring, sure, but I'd rather watch a boring character than one who grates on me. And like Faith said "he's a cutie". lol.

Kennedy! I was so on board when Kennedy came onto the show. Everyone hates that she's bratty but I like to see someone finally challenging the core four. Like, they ain't perfect.

Kennedy all the way! She relished the task she was given whereas every other girl except maybe Amanda and Vi wimped out. She came along exactly when Willow needed someone to get her out of her misery and managed to get her out of the transition into Warren that had happened as a result of Amy's magic. She was what Willow needed when she needed it. A point not to be overlooked is that she was entrusted with keeping Willow grounded during the spell that made all potentials into slayers and she brought the scythe to the battle.

I was in a loop of watching Buffy all the way through and managed to do so for about three complete cycles, but it all bogged down when the Initiative came into play. I couldn't hack Captain Cardboard being at the limits of his acting talent by just standing on his marks and reciting his lines. I stopped watching then. The best episode for him was "Restless".
