What are you hate watching?

La Brea. I loved Lost and it promised to have that vibe. And in a way it does, with some interesting plot developments. But ugh, the writing is so bad! Trite conversations, endless empty opposition among characters, too much family drama, and too many obviously stupid decisions. I feel like my eyestalks are going to break with rolling every time I watch it. And yet, I keep watching because it seems like it could be a better show, if they'd only put a little more money into the writing of it.

Totally agree!! It could have been so better, its almost as if they put effort into making La Brea bad. I love the idea and wish TerraNova had more seasons. I guess La Brea was panicked pandemic tv when they didnt know what else to shoot in Australia.

I am hate watching the new version of Heartbreak High. It's like tumblr got a tv show. Its seems to be aimed at a younger audience than the original but with more sex and drugs, rather than just implied sex and drugs. Less of a community, no share house just a bunch of bitchy individuals trying to out slut each other in a formed class literally named "sluts". Seedy and gross. Waiting for the episode where they all get STI's.

I can't believe I wrote that original comment in Nov. 2021, and I'm still watching La Brea, and it keeps getting worse! I'm just the eternal optimist when it comes to TV.
I stumbled across a reaction channel last night that watched the first episode of Jersey Shore, and it made me miss hate watching Jersey Shore. Lol. That show was trash, but fun trash.

I've been pretty good about stopping watching before shows get to hate watch status, but if I keep watching Mayfair Witches I think it might turn into that. They made a great book series boring. Ciprien is the only character I actually like, though I don't like that they combined two characters from the books into a new one. They should have just had that actor play Aaron Lightner and been done with it.

See. That's exactly why I don't even want to start it. A Mayfair Witches show based off the books would be awesome. Too bad it's at AMC. And don't even get me started on Lasher. Screw hate watching, I'm hate reading about it.

Yeah it's not like the books at all. Moreso than Interview with the Vampire was not like the books. That was at least watchable if you thought of it as a different thing than the books. This, the story they made it into is just bad.

I mean my recollection of the book is hazy but correct me if I am wrong. Lasher didn't appear in the first book until the very end did he? And wasn't he supposed to be like almost some kind of giant? The whole Taltos thing?

I think it was later on in the first book. And I don't remember him being quite so corporeal in the first book. IIRC the Taltos are taller than normal people, but I don't know if they are really giants. They can pass as regular humans, I think.

yeah, might have been the wrong word. I was thinking compared to the 6ft Huston.
Oh , have I got some doozies this week .

First off we have the enigmatic charms of She Spies (2002)
This starting airing in between season 6 and 7 of BTVS . It's packed full of strong women kicking arse ...but it's also a tongue-in-cheek parody of Charlies Angels and glitzy action shows like V.I.P (Pamela Anderson) . It's wildly self referential , literally breaking the 4th Wall in the first scene .

Is it art ? Or just work related cocaine psychosis ? Both explanations kinda work with 'She Spies' . It fascinates me how something so gloriously bad got a full season ...even though they had to dial the crazy right back to get renewed.

Omg, have a vague memory of that obscure show
Only watched a few episodes of this but great hate watch fodder . Acapulco H.E.A.T (1993)

More kickarse ladies and martial arts . This show is so 1980's ,it took til 1993 to release it 😛 . Of tangental interest coz it went on hiatus for a few years so the second , final season is airing around season 2 of Buffy .Also, I swear the gun lady from the Order of Taraka is an evil henchman in the launch eps 😛 .

What an insanely bad intro.

I remember that one!
Forgot to add , both She Spies and Acapulco H.E.A.T are available, free and clear , on Youtube . Unmolested and in acceptable quality .
What an insanely bad intro.
It just goes on , you think it's wrapping up ,then they throw another 6 cast members at you...and Fabio 😛 . Season 1 is ambitious , I'll give it that .

Yep, definitely seems of its time; there's the classic combo of 'character is shown doing their thing' like typing away at a computer or doing random martial arts and the 'character reacts to someone off-camera as they're introduced' so they can smile/nod/look animated.

And yet, its still a better character intro than that godawful Rings Of Power 'soap opera' promo...

In recent years I've started to focus in on Buffy era television as an idle interest . The occasional pearl in with the swine .
Now it's super cheesy but some of the stunt actors went on to be pretty influential in gaming and movies . Aired just after S1 of Btvs ... I enjoyed it very much ...in a tongue-in-cheek sort of way.

This week I have been mostly watching Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's 'The Lost World' (1999) 😀

This has been festering on my Freevee watchlist for a while . Not as cheap as it looks , actually a fairly competent family adventure show . A bit of a dark edge to it ,but it feels 'Monster of the Week' is the whole purpose of the show . Managed about 10 episodes .

The main cast is a bit white for comfort , especially because they regularly blast through poorly armed tribespeople . Granted, some of them are lizards and cavemen but the criticism stands . Kickarse women in abundance ,lots of melee combat ,regular T.Rex chase scenes 😛, 'The Lost World' is an interesting bit of fun from the Buffy age.
