What are you hate watching?

Modern Quiz shows tend to suck bar the odd ones. I hate when they just keep rebooting old ones but with more flashy and annoying younger hosts. It just loses its charm. The returns of Blockbuster and The Crystal Maze are two of the better ones.
 
CSI: Miami: Mainly because its kinda fascinating in a car-crash kinda way; Horatio Caine is one of the earliest examples of an insufferable Gary Stu that completely tanked a TV show. He didn't start out as some super-csi-cop but as a forensics guy with like, one specialty when it came to forensics; Grissom was the buys guy, or there was ballistics gal or whatever. Caine was explosives-man, and that was his deal to start with, for the first couple of seasons.

But slowly he morphed into this guy who was great at everything; always knew what was going on, figured out every mystery single-handedly; expert marksman who won every shootout with the baddies, knew all about snipers one episode, all about diving the next, all other techs weren't as knowledgeable about their special field next to ol' H.
What's more all the eligible ladies wanted his craggy ginger ass and we eventually never saw him in a lab coat never mind anywhere near a forensics lab. Just strutting about trying to look cool as he stared down sleazy criminals. Also he had this Jedi mind trick thing where he would take off his glasses, tell a suspect to do something and instead of, say, replying with 'uh, warrant?' they'd just go ahead and incriminate themselves.

All this was topped of with a hilarious performance by David Caruso, a once decent actor, who became an easily lapoonable caricature; with his oft-removing sun glasses trick and his cringe 'cool' line delivery to the increasingly bizarre storylines with him a the centre...

Also, on a side-note CSI: Miami makes the city of Miami look incredibly fake. You want to see it depicted authentically then try Dexter.

Also by complete co-incidence; David Caruso was a producer on the show. Funny that.

I actually loved Season 4! That was the last good season of true blood in my opinion.


I'm hate watching 'And Just Like That'... now that it's officially over after 3 seasons I can binge through it all. It's gotten scathing reviews which makes it all the more fun even if it is a serious drop from the high that was 'Sex and the City' 15/20 years ago; it will always be one of my favorite shows of all time.

I respect the people that love the first season or the whole show but it's not for me after 3 seasons of being bored I just gave up. I loved all the suggestions of HBO shows to watch : The Sopranos, The Wire, Rome, GOT, Oz, The Deuce, Six Feet Under but I was bored as hell in watching True Detective.

S1 is incredible. the rest not so much
Married At First Sight Australia s6 (MAFS). I wanted to see Cyrell cos I like her in Im a Celeb, and I actually like her in MAFS too. But I hate the show. Its torturous to watch. S6 has a cheating scandal and its sooooo bad. Its like a slow moving train crash, and not a passenger train, a 4 kilometre long grain train, just crash after crash, after crash. I going to go back to the current season when I finish this one because everyone else is watching it, but I hate it. All these people suck.
 
Shogun (2024) I finally watched it out of curiosity. I've seen the 1980 version and read the book. I really, really LOVED Hiro as Toranaga and Anna as Mariko. But honestly, the 1980 version was truer to the book.

I think part of it is trying to stretch out the story to two seasons. Back in the '80s, we could have an excellent miniseries adaptation, and then it would end. Now they get too greedy!

True but season 3 was decent and season 4 was great imo; I love the witch/coven storyline and all that. Seasons 3 & 4 had a lot of juicy Eric, Pam, Alcide, Lafayette & Jesus, even Bill, Jason & Sam were hot to watch these seasons. In season 5, everything shifted from feeling earthy & homey at Merlottes, Sookies & Lafayettes to the "AUTHORITY" which felt cold and too soap opera and political; it wasn't interesting or exciting and the setting inside the authority was horrible. The whole season is meh but the season finale of 5 is great with the authority assassinations. Seasons 6 & 7 were even more drawn out, melodramatic soap opera rubbish.

season 2 is still my favorite though mostly because of Maryann who felt like Glory on Buffy but actually more scary... she wasn't the "god" (or demigod in Glory's case) herself; Maryann worshipped the god of wine, ritual madness, religious ecstasy, frenzy, resurrection, prophecy, festivals and the arts in Greek mythology which made her very dangerous. She worshipped Dionysus- the son of Zeus and the mortal Semele. Dionysus was born a Demigod that ascended to full Godhood and joined the twelve Olympians, taking the place of his aunt Hestia. I love the greek mythology. Imagine if Buffy incorporated more mythological creatures? Cryptids, Leprecauns, Mermaids, Centaurs... well Dawn did turn into a centaur for a bit in Season 8.

Oh, they weren't terrible seasons by any means, but I'm saying that they seemed to be moving away from what made them great in the beginning. So for me, s3 is where things started to shift. When a series gets too popular, sometimes writers tend to lose sight of their original objective.

S3, and all of a sudden there's this somewhat silly storyline of 'werepanthers' and I just remember I baulked at it. And then it kept spinning from there as the series continued
witches, fairies, warlocks..
all in this tiny town of Bon Temps. 🤣

That said - I did not read the books, so I am merely going on the television series alone. But it got too bloated, too much of everything I mentioned in the spoiler.

The whole 'Bilith' thing was fairly silly. And the drawn-out ridiculous love triangles.

I agree s2 was great. I'm not sure mythological creatures would've fit in on BTVS though.


On a superficial note, when the series first began, I was fond of Bill. Everyone was fawning over Eric. When Eric cut his hair in s2, all of a sudden I went; 'Oh.....now I get what all the fuss is about'. 😀

Agreed! Eric looked insanely better with short hair though he isn't exactly bad looking with long hair either. Alcide is better than Bill or Eric ever were imo but call me a cliche. I agree it got too bloated but the werepanthers didn't bother me that much because I just viewed them as essentially a variation of a werewolf. Or might as well have been a shape shifter like Sam. On one hand, it wasn't executed perfectly (felt bloated and not the best characterizations) but I like how many different creatures True Blood introduced earlier on (fairies too!) as opposed to Buffy which did a lot more demons than anything else as it went on. Shape shifters definitely would have fit in Buffy; the First is essentially a shape shifter even though it's incorporeal. And in s3 when Buffy says she doesn't believe in Leprechauns and Giles confirms that as far as he knows they don't exist- that was a perfect potential foreshadow of an evil leprechaun. There's gotta be a lost St. Patricks day episode in the Buffy animated series one day or a comic issue.. or maybe New Sunnydale. lol I really don't care for a leprechaun in the Buffyverse- it would just be funny. I want scary creature from the black lagoon/the gill monsters from 'Go Fish' to come back! Deep dark water is scary af and it will make the ending of (and episode overall) 'Go Fish' seem less like a waste of time/throw away monster of the week episode if the swim team monsters came back.

Going back to a classic MOTW ('monster of the week') would be cool! Back to basics is a way to re-set things. Perhaps the new series will return to that format?

I did like Alcide too, and it was a shame what happened to his character at the end of his run on the series (because we must create DRAMA!).

They finally have him and Sookie get together, and then he's killed off. I believe he was trying to defend Sookie in a fight? I could be wrong.
