Potentials - How to make them better

That still doesn't mean that they have to do anything that Buffy tells them to, if Buffy told them to jump into a situation that will get them killed then I don't expect them to do it

Like marching into the Hellmouth, armed with little more than pointy sticks, to fave a hoard of monsters? That's the sort of thing that military leaders and those under their command have to do every day in war, and make no mistake, Season 7 was an all out war, Buffy was a military commander, and the Scoobies and the Potentials were under her command. Buffy's concern was the preservation of the human race, not the safety and well being of a few fighters under her command. We saw at the end of Season 5, Buffy knew what sacrifice was, and was willing to make it in order to save the world, and, likewise, the Scoobies knew as well. That's the terrible reality of war. Nobody wants to die, but sometimes it has to be done. I have no doubt that, if the situation had required it, she would have done the same thing again in Season 7, both for herself and those who followed her into battle, if the circumstances had demanded it

No, because the potentials were fine with going in the hellmouth, they were willing to die for the cause but they weren't willing to die stupidly for the cause. I was saying that the potentials have every right to speak up if they think that one of Buffy's commands are certain to get them killed, they are at worst willing to die, they aren't under any obligation to follow Buffy into a situation where they will certainly die. As for Buffy, just because war is about death doesn't mean she has the right to come up with a bad plan and still expect the potentials to follow and basically commit suicide. If Buffy's plan is good, the potentials should follow and if the plan is bad then the potentials at least have the right to question Buffy on why they're walking into a certain death trap. Cleary in 'Chosen' the potentials thought that Buffy's plan to make them all slayers was good enough for them to risk their lives so they followed, no questions asked.

But Buffy wasn't willing to make the ultimate sacrifice, she refused to let Dawn jump and said "It doesn't matter" in response to the world ending.

Everything she went through as a result changed Buffy's perspective though. In Lessons she says she would let Dawn die if the same situation occurred in the present. For the greater good.

It could have been done better, if we had got two know only two or three potentials.
.

I totally agree. Maybe they should've brought in 2-3 potentials earlier in the season and really getting to know them. Where they came from, what happened to theirs families & friends, how they adjusted to all of this but in details. Maybe an episode dedicated to them earlier in the season so we could keep the core four moments for the later episodes and really resolve their friendship issues. Also, I liked that they showed different ways to react to the new destiny (Suicide, runaway, etc) but maybe they could have more postive one like Kennedy who wanted to fight the evil. Theses girls have slayer genes in them so they technically should be into fighting like Buffy and Faith

But that is not true ! Rona fought in the vineyard, she fought at the hellmouth even so she had a broken arm and she was the only one of the potentials to get a go with the sythe. She is not the average girlie potential, that is true. But you need some diversity and I´d rather goe for Rona than for Kennedy.
Kennedy would be okay for me, if she wouldn`t be with Willow. And that is just because there was no chemistry at all between those two.

flow

She got a go with the sythe because she happened to pick it up. She was whiny and ungrateful.
I don't care if she is a girly girl... Faith is not a girly girl and I adore her character no matter how flawed she may be.
I never once said that I disliked Rhona because she wasn't a girly girl
And even though Buffy may like certain types of clothes or do certain types of things--> I would say after she became the slayer she wasn't the girl she used to be at her old high school in LA
I prefer Kennedy to Rhona
However, I do agree there was a lack of chemistry between Willow and Kennedy- something just felt off....

You mean it kinda jumped into her hands and slipped so that it appeared she was fighting? Because seeing the scythe, picking it up, and using it isn't being useless.

I understand that she fought in the battle at the end. I'm talking about how whiny and ungrateful she was up until that point. And I'm not sure why her being the one who used the scythe some how makes her better than the other potentials or more willing to fight. She just happened to be in the right position at the right time in order to pick up the scythe and use it. I'm positive Kennedy would have loved to use it and the other potentials would have if it had been in front of them.

Rhona didn't pick up the scythe she caught it because Faith called her name and threw it to her.

However it was done, I was just expressing that I thought Rhona was whiny and for some reason it has gotten everyone in a tizzy.

I guess I'll just retract my statement. I didn't know I couldn't have an opinion. Sorry if this comes off as rude, it just feels like I am being attacked all because I found Rhona more annoying that Kennedy.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion! If y'all didn't find her annoying then good for y'all because at least that means s7 may have been slightly more enjoyable for you.

I don't care if you find Rhona more annoying than Kennedy 🙂 I was just wondering why everyone was using the term picked up when it was clearly just thrown by chance to Rhona.

Sorry, I know you don't care. It was just getting annoying that I seem to be being attacked over an opinion. I am okay with a discussion, but not an attack. I know it wasn't you!
And you are totally right, it was thrown to her, which actually helps back up my opinion lol.

I didn't say how she was better, just that you weren't making sense that I could see...and I could say virtually everyone was whiny in this season, including Buffy. (I'm not saying "excessively so" as that's a lot of stress to carry, for all of them.) Frankly, I'm not even sure which one Rona is (I think I do, but I'm not certain...just checked, yep, she's who I thought she was).

More importantly, watch you how imagine our tones. No one "attacked" you and on one is in a "tizzy." The only way you could think that is if you were "hearing" the worst possible tone in what everyone else posted when you can't actually hear the "tones of voice."

I'm not looking for a fight. I felt attacked, and it is exactly what you are doing now. I don't appreciate you telling me how I feel. I have never had any troubles on the boards and I'm not looking for any. If you didn't even know who Rhona was, then why even say anything about her in the first place?
Look, I'm done with this. They were all pretty annoying and I can't believe that the fact that I had a different opinion has caused so much upset.

Dude. You need to chillax. There was definitely no one attacking you. Peace. (Karma points to make you feel better.)

The only one upset here is you.

Though for the first time I'm annoyed with you, saying you don't appreciate me telling you how you feel while you project untrue observations into the rest of us as attacking you (that is, telling us how WE feel).

Btw, I do have a reason for why I added input though I wasn't sure who Rona was, but since you're done here I see no point in saying why.

Could not agree more.
All Rona did was complain for the majority of Season 7, that was her role, to complain. I don't think she ever says a positive comment. Kennedy is worse but Rona would be second place. They should've swapped Kennedy and Rona's screen time for that of Amanda and Chao-ahn.

Guys, let's try and be respectful of others and have a little patience with communicating and tone over the internet. 🙂

Thank you @brinkster130

Back to the original subject, I think one of the problem with the potential was that they weren't very relatable. I think one of the good thing about Buffy, Faith or even Amanda was that they were relatable and we could see ourselves in them. Now we got a nerdy potential, a bratty potential but what else could we have got? A jock potential who is more into sports? An artsy potential who likes to paint or draw? Imagine you could create a potential that is like you, what would she be like?

Interesting point. I thought Kit and Cassie were both great characters when I watched Season 7 on its initial run. I was the same age as them and both of them resonated with me. Perhaps that is because they were both a little similar to me in high school. I thought we had a lot of depth from Cassie in particular knowing that she had a live journal of sorts, and it seemed like she liked anime and dressed a little like, what we called in the early noughties, an indie kid. I would have loved to have seen Cassie as a potential instead of a stand alone. God, even having one of the cheerleaders from Sunnydale would have been at least something. Perhaps a pre-slayer type of Buffy character. Considering Whedon's tendency to use dualities through the run, I'm actually surprised he DIDN'T give us a Season 1 Buffy to draw our attention to how far she has come.

Cassie is one of my favourite characters :)
@caitaintdead I felt attacked, and your post is not helping. I really don't appreciate you and other people trying to tell me how I feel. I had already let this go and moved on then you have the audacity to post what you did. Maybe I have been slightly sensitive this week, but it was the way that I felt. And a mod has already told us to be respectful then you post this, way to go against board rules
