How have I survived so many months without you guys? There are so many intelligent thought provoking BTVS discussions happening all across this board. I love how civil you all are to each other, and how, for the most part, I'm not seeing people bashing other users. Just sparring with words and opinions.
I'm a Buffy newbie, and started watching only a year ago. I wasn't expecting much because I've never been a fantasy person (no, not even Tolkien, blasphemous I know. He's got some great quoatables, but I was never able to get into stories with barely any women in them).
But Buffy surprised me. I kind of expected to be greeted with the basic stereotypes I see on Tv. (Buffy would be the tough girl, Willow would be the quiet nerd, Xander would be, well, I didn't know what to expect from Xander actually...). But there was so much more to Buffy and the scoobies. There was all this warmth and heart to them. Like how Buffy was scared at the end of season 1. I loved that! Just because she's a hero and people expect her to die, does she have to be all stoic and take it (like most characters on Tv do?). A big, resounding NO.
And I loved how Willow was so clever and lovable and interesting. She was shy in a very unique, very endearing way (big props to AH...terrific acting on her part). And I like how Xander has all this great quips for every situation, and how great he is. And Giles was so funny! Not expecting that. I love dry English humour a lot, so yes, a huge fan of Rupert.
Anyway, that's enough about me. So happy to meet you and be here, and look forward to having some amazing conversations with you guys!
