What profession would Buffy pick in a post-slayer world?

I know she was a high school guidance counsellor, but I would have loved to see Buffy become a cop. Or maybe something else that requires physical strength and endurance. Like, I don’t know, a firefighter?

What professions do you think Buffy showed an aptitude for during her time on the show?

Buffy showed resistance to the idea of being a cop when she tested for that at Career Day. I'm also tempted to point out that Buffy doesn't sound like one to appreciate procedure and writing reports, but then neither do most TV cops (and I understand in the comics she does join a police division combating supernatural threats, which I'm sure has very little oversight since most to all demonic threats would almost certainly have no rights, and if the supernatural is then public then I expect special laws give the police a lot more latitude which most of the public would support).

Firefighter sounds good, though. She's used to the danger, heals fast (burns may heal slower, but they still heal, which would be a tremendous boon to any firefighter), and especially capable. She's even experienced (like when she rescued Giles from the burning building.)

Though offhand, I could see her joining a circus, she has so many talents and abilities that would work there...and would probably run into others with demonic or supernatural legacies of their own.

Martial Arts instructor! Lol. Probably some kind of law enforcement. Or Private security.

Yeah I always liked the idea of Buffy living in a world full of Slayers, with so much time on her hands to just be Buffy and saw her opening some kind of school for holding self-defense/martial arts classes. I think she'd get a lot out of that, plus she'd still be 'saving' people, by teaching them how to protect themselves from attacks.

I disagree with all you guys, like Thrasherpix said, we know Buffy wasn't keen on the police force test result, I don't think she would choose military or marital arts, she is smart and gets good grades but not academically inclined say like Willow. She got the student counselor job because she needed a job, I do not think we saw Buffy as specifically gifted with people, children or teaching .. protecting people was her job, now with a choice in the matter, of course she chooses it as her calling because she got the chance to choose it on her own and it offers her inherent purpose...

This guy thinks Buffy should've blackmailed a lying corporation so she could save lives instead....this should start at 30 seconds and is less than a minute long (before moving on to other examples of how Hollywood doesn't, unsurprisingly, understand poverty), and I only mean to share those seconds that relate to Buffy:

Of course there's a lot more in season 6, but he only touches on something minor.

It depends on how the post slayer-world came about. If it was because there was no real threat of demons, Buffy would want to do something small and local, like a self-defense teacher. However if the post-slayer world was only in a sense that all the slayers lost their powers and there was still evil, I think Buffy would want to keep fighting the good fight and work with Angel, assuming he still has some sort of operation running.

As far as being a martial arts instructor, Buffy is a street fighter, and an obviously very capable one, but that doesn't make her a martial arts instructor, and civilian self defense doesn't usually include being able to shove a wooden stake into your attacker's chest.

Buffy has had actual work experience in only two fields: food service, as either a waiter or a slinger of hamburgers, and high school counselor, which may not actually count, because the only real reason that she got that job was so Wood could get to know her.

Personal security/bodyguard service might be a viable option, especially if she had someone with equal assets, like Faith or Spike, or both, to be partners.

If that fails, there's always an opening for professional dog walkers.

Buffy should go into politics. She has a strong sense of right and wrong, she's got experience of real world issues, working for minimum wage, raising a child, living on a budget, so she wouldn't be seen as a 'career politician'. I think she sincerely wants to make the world a better place for everyone, and politics would be a good way for her to do that in a post-slayer world.

Only if she was willing to campaign dirty and pragmatically, and make a few deals with the devil along the way. Otherwise she'd be lucky to win even a city or county election.
Certainly nothing to do with fashion.

With all the quips she makes, maybe a comedy writer.

Another one would be insurance claims adjuster. Want to know what damage there is to your car? She can just pick it up and take a look underneath.

I vote writer. She has a brilliant way with words and clearly writes well considering her brilliant results in her SATs and at uni. If we're talking about a world where Buffy and slayers are still secret than I would vote for horror writer. With all the tales she has had to tell she could write some brilliant pieces. Alternatively, in a world where slayers are 'in the open' perhaps writing for a website like thought catalogue where she could write some hilarious articles about dating vampires etc.

She was super intelligent and witty and very creative in difficult situations, took the lead in difficult situations successfully, had a 'leave-no-one-behind' kind of attitude. I think she'd be aces at being the director of some ethical NGO, or a top human rights lawyer, an investigative journalist, a detective. I prefer my first suggestion though, she's good at being the boss!

I think if Buffy wasn't choosen to be a slayer she would work in the fashion industry. So I would see her going back to it and being a stylist for example. She would be so good at it!

She loved the job as a high school counsellor. And she was really good at it. The kids opened up to her. In a post-slayer world Buffy would have become someone who - in whatever way - helps people. Maybe as a counsellor or a therapist or a social worker. Maybe she could have helped demons to adjust to living with humans. it could have been a job paid for by the government.
