Who should have been a victim of Angelus?

Hi all!

So Angelus comes back in S4 of Angel and really doesn't do much in terms of evil deeds. If we could up the stakes a little, who do you think should have died because of Angelus to miroir Jenny's loss on Btvs?

I want to say 'Connor' so badly because I can't stand him but Angel would have never forgiven himself after getting his soul back and I don't know if it would make for a good plot point.

Maybe Cordelia ? Since she was evil and everything... And it's Angelus' M.O to go after the ones (mostly women) who made Angel feel human

Since Lilah died anyway, Angelus should have killed her. I do like how they wrote him for the most part, but he would have been so much more threatening and in character if he took a life.

I picked Lilah. It just makes sense storywise, or rather, parallels with BtVS.

Buffy was friends with a male British Watcher (Giles). Angelus killed Giles's girlfriend (Jenny).
Angel was friends with a male British Watcher (Wesley). Angelus should've killed his girlfriend (Lilah).

There was zero impact having possessed Cordelia kill her and the next season it's just an offhanded "Sorry about Lilah" and then back to the main plot. Wesley was having sex with Lilah for months, she was his only solace from depression, guilt, & isolation, and Cordelia had the memory of stabbing her in the neck.

In Lies My Parents Told Me Willow leaves for LA to ensoul Angelus while Giles goes behind Buffy's back to try to kill a souled Spike and flat out references Angel. In the Empty Places script Giles references that Buffy didn't stop Angelus before he killed Jenny. I can't remember but I think they were also considering having Giles bring it up to Buffy in LMPTM.

Seriously, though, Angelus messing with Riley would have been interesting since they had a mutual dislike for each other. And it would have put Buffy in a difficult position.

Maybe instead of killing the ones Buffy loved, Angelus could try to lure Buffy back into a relationship and then turn her into a vampire so they could kill all her friends and family.

Angelus could drive to Sunnydale, attack the Potential hitchhiker, Shannen, and when Buffy leads the group into the vineyard to fight the new threat tied to The First, she sees Angel and it shocks her too much to fight and that's how the 2-3 Potentials were killed, Xander (who Angel never liked) gets his eye gouged out, and the group accuse Buffy of not thinking clear since she froze during battle and the core members (Scoobies) know how big a deal fighting Angelus again must be for her.

Meanwhile, Caleb emerges in Los Angeles "City of Angels" as a longtime follower of Jasmine, who he sees as sort of a goddess of peace. He is the "loser preacher" Anne Steele told Buffy she followed during her Sister Sunshine persona. He heard of the eclipse and reign of fire and thought it was a Biblical omen.

Nope. Wouldn't work. Buffy would have to kill Angelus dead the second time - there's no way you could have him act as a Potential-murdering symbol of misogyny and not be dusted for good at the end. And that would mean no Angel S5 and no S4 either. You couldn't have the rest of the season go on with no protagonist, and you certainly couldn't bring him back successfully from BtVS having fulfilled the kind of role that Caleb has there.

Soooo many fan fics out there like this! It's a popular idea. One I read where they did horrible things to Willow - yikes. That one was creepy!

Cordelia. Imagine Angel's anguish at killing someone he loved and then having to mention that to Buffy and the gang, could have been very juicy and it would have been very complimentary to Cangel and Cordelia as a character because Angel would not easily get over what he did.

That wouldn’t work though. Cordelia wasn’t herself in season 4. In fact, she was the one responsible for releasing Angelus, controlling the Beast and then hiding his soul. Angel was planning on killing her himself before Jasmine was born. To have Angelus Kill EvilCordy Would have no emotional impact at all , on Angel himself or on the audience. In fact, it would have been doing us all a favor and would have come across more like karmic Justice then anything sad.

But anywho - Angelus’ indifference to Cordy when he is released is very telling. He goes for those closest to Angel and he is particularly obsessed with torturing those who made Angel feel love. Yet he couldn’t be bothered with Cordy. So I think this was a deliberate writing decision.

I said Evil Cordy. Evil Cordy being killed by Angelus could be seen as KARMIC justice, since Evil Cordy was the one who released him and then stole his soul.

It’s not Cordelia in season 4. She’s completely taken over and is responsible for some of the most heinous acts in the season. For her to be killed by Angelus is actually a much better death IMO then being used as a vessel to give birth to itself then left a vegetable.

I think the "most unfair thing to ever happen in the Buffyverse" would have to go to demon hunter Holtz rushing home only to find his wife has been raped & murdered and his daughter turned into a soulless demon that he now has to kill while she pleads for her life. And then when he's transported centuries into the future for vengeance, the two vampires who reveled in destroying his life are alive, seemingly still together, and expecting a miracle baby even though no vampires in history have ever conceived.

Or that Drusilla is the only member of the Whirlwind who was never given the chance to redeem.

Cordelia chose not to tell anyone the visions were deteriorating her brain. She hid it for nearly the entire 2 years that led up from receiving them in Parting Gifts to being in a coma in Birthday. It's no different than Riley not wanting to give up being a super soldier and almost dying of heart failure.

Cordelia chose to believe if she never ran into Angel at that party in City Of, by her 21st birthday she would be a famous wealthy celebrity who stars in her own self titled tv series and everyone else's lives would be in a world of misery & chaos without her and she'd have to save them all. She believed Angel could survive having the memories of raping, torturing, and murdering thousands of people over 145 year span and of being trapped in Hell for 100 years but would be huddled in a corner pissing himself without her being his friend the last two and a half years.

Cordelia chose to get infused with the DNA of an unspecified species in order to keep the visions because she wanted to be needed. It wasn't just about helping those who need it, it was feeling superior, a Champion, integral for other's survival. "You can't fire me, I'm Vision Girl." She moved to Hollywood to use her looks to get wealthy and adored because that's what made her feel validated but then learned that everyone in Hollywood is as pretty as she is and most of them actually have talent. AI paid her bills and gave her validation. She became as desperate as Willow with the magics. It wasn't selfless. Unless someone goes by the Anya as a vengeance demon definition.

Cordelia chose to believe that because she suffered for 2 years she was the best of mankind and that the universe finally noticed she was a Higher Being and left Earth for an unspecified dimension to do unspecified work. Every step of the way she made the wrong choice and was called extraordinary and praised for it.
