Why the huge Spike hate?

He certainly should. As a warrior, Spike ended up being a fundamental piece against the First and... Spike was in Buffy's heart. As Slayer and woman Buffy would be stressed - in the middle of a great battle.

But what to expect from a man who abandoned his so called daughter when she most needed him? "I'm standing in the way", so bye, deal with your problems by yourself, you need to grow up a little. Dawn was just a teenager, Willow had her own issues, Xander... was a young male. The only person - thing - that was there for Buffy was Spike. The haters hate him so much for that, but she was all alone.

To be fair, as someone who doesn't like Spike, I don't hate him for that, I hate the writers for creating that situation because it didn't have to be like that.

In the end, for me this only extends to further disliking Spike because - again to me - it just shows how far down the rabbit hole the writers had gone in their blind adoration for his character. It's like it didn't even occur to them to make Buffy's friends more reliable in her time of need, instead they stripped them away and attached Spike to her as a ball in chain.

Well that's a relief, thank goodness she wasn't alone if not maybe she could get back on their feet sooner than it happened. Or maybe it was better if she was alone, because Spike wasn't at all what she needed at that moment.
If Buffy was able to get rid of "the great help" that Spike gave her, we have to thank only Riley ...and you use too often the word "haters" to argue your opinions.

But that was in previous seasons.. that doesnt count. As season 7 they were making Spike into a leading man so they had to forget those past instances in which her friends were supportive and there for her, to focus to building the Spike character. You have to destroy the importance of the others to build the importance of the one. Otherwise Spike becomes a member of the gang and not a co-star.
 
Oh. Right. But...it still holds true in season 7! I mean, who brings Buffy back in "Get It Done"? Who finds her unconscious in "Bring on the Night"? Who makes her a freaking slayer army so she's not torn into shreds in like 15 seconds by a horde of angry vamps? Yeah, OK, Buffy's less into damseling in season 7 than in season 6, that's obviously Prince Spike's job but when she is, it's not Spike who gets to be the knight in shinning armour.

Yeah, I agree, season 7 is Spike-heavy to the point of complete obnoxiousness but when it comes to actually getting shit done? Nah-uh. Spike talks a lot, beats up a single demon and then blows himself up.

Oh of course not. I mean it's physically impossible. Even if he were a ballon man it's unlikely he would actually be able to blow himself up. He just stands there and let's an amulet blow it up for him. Lazy bastard.
 
Ummm, nothing actually blows up? The amulet uses Spikes soul to channel the power that rips through the Ubervamps?
 
What caused the hole if not something being blown (up or down is debatable)

Blind adoration? I didn't know that, but if it's true, I loved the part "adoration"! It's been said that it doesn't matter what the writers wanted to say, just what we saw on screen...

She was all depressed beacuse of what? Because she was pulled from Heaven. Helping her with Slayer stuff was a thing the Scoobies were doing since Season One, so I wasn't talking about that.

Riley... good boy, came, saw and put Buffy in the right path, what more can I say?

I use a lot haters because the haters are very active in this forum... besides, the title of this thread is "Why the huge Spike Hate".

"No, he was a selfish bastard who did that for some selfish reason, and he was weak - letting himself to be controlled by the First that easy, and Beneath You, again, he was a selfish bastard that just manipulated poor, stupid Bufffy, and..."!!!!! 🙄
 
Spike is Dawn of season 7. He's the character that needs to be cuddled and protected and rescued and given pep talks and believed in and reaffirmed and validated and - and you know what I mean. In a house full of actual teenage girls, that is. Think about it.

OK, Spike talks a lot, beats up a single demon and then sets himself on fire! Personally, I think that blows up sounds more studly or whatever, plus he did leave a crater, but alright - your choice 🙂

Not many, but the few are quite active. To hate is to descontruct every. single. thing. a character does or says. And make others look stupid to fit the bill.

See I think to be a hater is to hate without any logical reason. Say what you will about the people on this forum, I think they almost always make well thought out arguments and interpretations (that can go for both sides). Plus many of the users I've seen accused of being a hater are actually quite fond of Spike during his other arcs... I'm not sure why all that is cancelled out because there's an aspect/story/direction that they don't like. Which is why I personally think "hater" is too 'black and white' a term for what I've seen around here.

If both sides of the argument go that way, it just ends up being:
"You're just a Spike hater, blinded by hate!"
"Oh yeah well you're just a Spike lover, blinded by love!"
And it'll all just be very hollow and pointless.
