Thoughts on Kennedy

I want to know what you all think about Kennedy. I was personally opposed to anyone coming after Tara in Willow's love life, but I felt like Kennedy cared a lot about Willow, despite their many differences. I thought that Kennedy and Willow were especially amazing and sweet together in "The Killer in Me", especially the ending where they kiss and Willow becomes Willow again. I still feel like Willow moved on too quickly, but I could be wrong. After all, Tara would have wanted Willow to be happy and move on. Anyway - what are your personal thoughts on Kennedy? Like, dislike, kinda/sorta, etc?

I've become quite affectionate towards Kennedy recently, I admire her bravery and confidence even though it's misguided sometimes 🙂
At least this girl would love to become a Slayer, and has no problem throwing herself into dangerous situations for others (Buffy at one point, and the potentials). That's the attitude I like seeing.

I don't think i minded her as a character, but really disliked that she came into the role of Willow's girlfriend.

I am absolutely confused by the hatred towards Kennedy, especially when people who love Faith call Kennedy a brat. Kennedy is the type of person I would fall in love with immediately. She is just so pleasant and open. I am easily impressed by people who dare to be direct and wear their intentions on their sleeves.

The actress is not amazing, but she is not awful either. She has some really good moments. Like Amber, Iyari is good with her facial expressions, though I would be loathe to compare the two.

Because even though Faith went evil , and had her outrageously bratty moments, I still liked her. Eliza sold the damage and vulnerability underneath the exterior. To me personally I rooted for her and wanted her to be redeemed. It’s the same with Spike. It was because of JM and the charisma he brought to the role that made Spike so popular no matter what he did. Iyari had none of that depth or charisma IMO. She was just annoying

I could have happily seen her being eaten by the Gnarl.

True, but in my eyes, Kennedy never rarely did anything that made it difficult to like her.

It’s all subjective and in the eye of the
Beholder. If we all felt the same about the characters there wouldn’t be a discussion board 🙂 for me personally, Kennedy rarely did anything to make it easy to like her. 😛

And that is fine. I get that Kennedy is not everybody's favourite character, because she's certainly not mine. But even if she, as you say, rarely does something that makes it easy to like her, it does not explain why certain people hate her with such a passion.

Some say she was "predatory" and "forced Willow to like her" by "relentlessly" pursuing her. Others hate her because she came from a wealthy family and was trained in combat and ways of the Slayer.

The first is a gross exaggeration to the point of being irresponsible. I feel people infantilize Will by thinking she cannot stand being flirted with by a teenager. The latter doesn't even make sense.

See why I'm confused? 😕

I don't think she's predatory, but I do think she is overly aggressive when trying to seduce Willow. I think she should have been a bit more respectful that Willow has not long since lost Tara and probably needed a bit of time before starting a new relationship. Then again if Kennedy was a bit more charming I could believe that Willow would be into her. She's just a badly written character IMO. Not sure the actor's that good either.

Kennedy didn't watch the first six seasons of Buffy. You need to cut her some slack.

Its been awhile since I've watched that part of season 7. Are you saying she didn't know about Tara? I still think she's a little aggressive anyway.
Not initially, and she isn't told a lot. That also explain why Kennedy is slow to trust Buffy, because Buffy doesn't necessarily inspire confidence.

Another thing is, once Willow turns into Warren she clearly needs a friend. It would be irresponsible for Kennedy to leave her by then.

My major problem with Kennedy is that it just happened too quickly. Clearly, Willow was barely over the loss of Tara, and suddenly she's got a new girlfriend. I realize, things were rushed, what with that being the final Season, which Joss almost certainly knew from the start, whether anyone else did, or not, but, still, it just seemed to me that it somehow diminished Tara's memory.

That's a lot of it. The potentials, et al were all going in blind. They had no idea who Buffy and Willow were and what they had been through. They didn't have the benefits of 6 years of growth together. This is off topic, but it's especially true with Wood also.
