So originally in the S5 episode of Angel & the 100th episode "Your Welcome"
Buffy was supposed to be on this episode but Sarah Michelle Gellar was busy with other projects so she didn't appear and Cordelia/Charisma for the role instead.
Would you have preferred Buffy or Cordelia in this episode?
For me I have to say Cordelia
& here's why
Buffy is my fav character& Spuffy is my fav ship and I'm almost certain that Joss was planning a Spuffy reunion with Your Welcome and that would've been a dream but us Spuffy fans have the comics while Cordelia does not.
After what Joss did to Cordelia in S4 of Angel I think she deserved Your Welcome because it redeemed her.
Also it's arguably Cordelia's best episode in her entire Buffyverse run!
So who would you prefer?

I voted Cordelia, partly because I can't imagine the episode without her (it would have needed a heavy re-write to fit Buffy in there) and partly because I'd rather have Buffy in The Girl in Question. I also think I would have been very disappointed if AtS ended without any closure for Cordelia.

I agree on both parts! Cordelia needed closure & Buffy coming in the Girl In Question could've given us a Spuffy reunion
I'm not sure how the story, as written, could have substituted Buffy for Cordy, especially since Cordy more or less died at the end of the episode. Also, it would have been impossible for Buffy to have more or less ignored Spike, considering how their final moments in "Chosen" played out, the way that Cordy did, after only a brief scene.

That's not saying that some sort of episode couldn't have been written where Buffy made an appearance in Season 5, but it would have been a totally different story, so it couldn't really be compared to what we saw in "You're Welcome."

Thanks god this never happened ! Sorry, everyone here who know me know I’m not a Spuffy hater but if « You are Welcome » would have been about Spuffy reunion, it would have very disappointed me and I would have been angry to Joss and not because I’m Bangel. The series is not about Spike, not about Buffy and even less Spuffy. ATS is not the good place for the Spuffy reunion !

That is true. I'm just saying I'm pretty sure that's what Joss had planned .

Well I’m glad he changed his mind.

Haha actually Sarah's busy schedule changed his mind.
Honestly I don't think he was interested working with Charisma anymore especially with how unhappy she was with Angel S4 & she said she found out in the press she wasn't back for Angel S5.
But I'm glad it happened. Cordelia deserved it. Spuffy's continuation is in the comics anyway.

I remember them saying that DB had reached out to talk about SMG in Season 5 along with writers and he was upset when her schedule didn’t allow it, why would he be invested in her coming on and doing a Spuffy arc?

Maybe he was insane. Maybe he wanted to put a king in the back of all the Bangels ! I have my evil theories haha

Interesting I haven't heard that but considering how the comics have gone . I see anything Bangel as unlikely. Overall tho happy how the episode turned out!

I guess what I mean is there is no evidence that I have ever come across to indicate that Joss had a Spuffy arc in mind for SMG’s return. I remember reading that he or a writer said that Buffy started Angel’s journey and they wanted her to be there for the ending, there was also talks of her being in the penultimate episode. That was the goal. And to be fair in Season 8 comics Joss had Buffy and Angel screw a universe into existance so it’s not like the comics had no Bangel.

I would have been personally upset if there had been actual Spuffy in AtS S5, despite what I ship. It would have been disrespectful to the show and clear pandering to Spuffy shippers, and that's not something I'm interested in at all. I was fine with the inclusion of Spike in S5 and mentions of his past with Buffy, but the writers never let it overtake Angel's own past with and love for Buffy, rightfully so. Agree with @dcai0830 on all accounts here.

I’m with you..
I once wrote a tumblr post on this.

How I imagine the Buffy version...

* It wouldn't be called You're Welcome. Buffy hardly ever gets thanked so she really wouldn't preempt gratitude.
* Angel tells Buffy he joined the shady WR&H in order to change it from the inside out but fears he might be in the belly of the beast. It reminds her of BtVS s4 so she tells him about joining The Initiative and how she told Riley he could forge his own path or try to change things from the inside. She mentions the last case she had before they slept together (Bad Eggs), a mother bezoar swallowed her whole but she grabbed a pickaxe on the way in and killed the giant squid from inside its belly. And she's no longer trapped in Sunnydale because the evil was destroyed by going down into the Hellmouth and cleansing the town from deep within it. "From beneath you, it devours."
* Angel says WR&H were hunted and killed by acolytes of a Power That Be and that's how he became the new CEO of it. Buffy says the WC were hunted and killed by acolytes of the First Evil and that is how she became Head of it. So they both took over the ruins.
* Buffy meets Eve. It makes her think how The Initiative had an Adam.
* Angel tells Buffy he had mystics perform a spell to change people's memories so Connor could be inserted into a family. She said she experienced that when monks performed a spell to change people's memories so Dawn could be inserted into her family. That it was extremely wrong and violating but both times it was to save a life (makes her think of turning the Potentials into Slayers to give them a chance to defend themselves) and she's so grateful to have Dawn and she's sure Connor would be grateful if he knew.
* Angel says Connor's new family are named the Reilleys and the similarity to Buffy's ex, Riley, is not lost on them.
* Buffy meets music loving demon from a hell dimension Lorne. She mentions Kathy, her first college dormmate, a 3,000 year old demon from a hell dimension. Angel is surprised hearing the name Kathy since it is the name of his sister.
* Angel says at first Doyle reminded him of Whistler. Buffy says she met Whistler (he was in Giles' apartment), he was the one who told her how to stop Acathla.
* Buffy meets Fred who says Angel rescued her from being a slave in a demon dimension. It makes Buffy think of the 7 people she rescued from a demon dimension when she was mourning Angel (he found out about her death right after getting back from Pylea). Both times it happened in LA. Fred fell into the portal in 1996, the same year Buffy was activated as the Slayer.
* Buffy visits Anne at the homeless shelter.
* Spike stops faking his death and tells Buffy he thinks he needs to stay in LA for awhile. He got his soul for selfish reasons and needs to learn how to be good for goodness sake.
* Buffy finds out both Angel & Spike had sex with someone else within the 7-8 months she last saw them. She can't be mad at Angel since she's been under a My Will Be Done enchantment (that time she was engaged to Spike).
* Buffy is the one to take the red sword off of Angel's weapons wall, the color reminded her of the Scythe.
* Angel, Buffy, & Spike fight together for the first time since Lover's Walk.
* Lorne tries to get Buffy to sing a few notes but she won't after what happened with Sweet and the town becoming a musical.

Angel, Buffy and Spike fighting together?!? My dream come true!
I know the Scythe comes from the Fray comics (or, now that Buffy has it first and in s8 met Melaka, Fray got it 200 years after her) but does it remind anyone else of Angel & Buffy's axes v. stakes debate in IWRY? The Scythe is pretty much an axe on one side and a stake on the other.

Angel: It's not a vampire. I don't know why you even brought that.
Buffy: Because I know how to use it. Besides, it's a lot handier than your fighting axe.
Angel: Unless it chops it in two and takes some of your hand with it.

And Angel & Spike's cavemen versus astronauts debate reminds me of it.

Buffy's cookie dough speech is a clear callback to IWRY. The ice cream they were eating in bed was cookie dough fudge mint chip. And when Buffy got home in IWMTLY, Giles said he ate cookie dough and talked about boys with Dawn. In Prom, when Buffy told Giles that Angel was leaving her he sweetly offered to get ice cream.

This is a hard one, but I voted for Cordelia. I think for Angel the character, it would have been perfect to see Buffy. But for Angel the series – especially for the 100th episode – it was really more fitting to focus on the characters who had been part of the foundation of that show, and it was so heart-wrenchingly wonderful to have Cordelia and Angel watch the video of Doyle.

An episode where Buffy had a meeting with both Angel and Spike COULD have worked, if done right, but, as I said, it would have been a totally different thing than what we did see, and "You're Welcome" added greatly to the Season story line, whereas a Buffy/Spike/Angel scene would not have really contributed anything.

if « You are Welcome » would have been about Spuffy reunion, it would have very disappointed me and I would have been angry to Joss

why would (David) be invested in her coming on and doing a Spuffy arc?

Slightly off topic, since I've already pretty much said that I prefer the episode as presented, but despite the fact that I prefer Sarah's chemistry with James far better than anything that she ever had with David, whether in this episode, with Sarah instead of Charisma, "The Girl In Question," or somewhere else entirely, I would still have liked to have had a legitimate Buffy/Spike reunion, instead of what we got in the comics. They wouldn't have had to run madly to the nearest bedroom, office, broom closet, or parked car, but I still think that we were robbed of a "I'm glad you didn't die. Thank you for helping me save the world again," and maybe a, "Sorry I didn't call you, pet, but (I really think that I'm needed here, or I needed some time to sort things out before I could feel right complicating your life again)." ANYTHING would have been better than the, "Oh, Hi Spike. Nice to see you. Mind if I use your shower? I've got Angel scent all over me." that we got in the comics.

This is Cordelia's goodbye episode and it's the least she deserved. If her story had to end I am happy with how they did it. I cannot imagine anyone else counseling Angel in that way. Angel and Cordy may/may not have been romantic, but I believe it was love and this is a beautiful goodbye between two people who love each other.
